Kind of a mess crossing the border during peak holiday period, buses are full and cramped and everyone rushes on. Remember to take bags at the border crossing as the bus may just drive off without u and have to wait till the bus returns to pick u up. Same for both ways haha.

This is the bus station where you can take a bus across the border with Thailand. Fares are 50 bath a person, busses are packed and hot. the bus stops at Lao immigration to get your exit stamp and also stops at Thai immigration to get your entry stamp. Some Lao Tuktuk drivers will try to convince you to bring you directly to the bridge for 300 bath as it supposed to be faster. I did the math and it's literally a matter of minutes. I was queuing up at Thai immigration while the next bus arrived. maybe on some days? Always keep your belongings with you!

My 1st time here . But had bad experience - the bus driver left me and my husband at Lao border while we were filling up the visa form. We were forced to get a van (that charged us 200baht) to catch the bus where our bags (with important docs) were. Am terrified already and what if this happens when we pass the border again. IS THIS REALLY THE CULTURE of the bus company here the driver does not check his passengers first?!

Here my experience with the bus leaving 8:15 am Savannakhet Busstation to Mukdahan Busstation, crossing the friendship bridge to Thailand.
The bus left in time, droped us at the Lao departure checkpoint and picked us up afterwards.
At the Thai Checkpoint the same. We had to take our baggage for X ray inspection.
To fill the arrival form takes a while and also to get stamped the passport.
All this took in our case around 15 min, but there was no bus to continue our journey.
It seems the bus is waiting max. 15 min. A few people had made it to reach the same bus, the rest had to wait for the next bus who leaves 45 min later from Savannakhet. I found this annoying to sit there without any information why there was no bus anymore.
If you should board this bus make sure you sit in the first row and go off the bus first.
Write quick your form and you might be able to catch this bus again.

The Bus to Pakse not Stop in Pakse City. He Stops on the North Terminal. You have to go by Tuk Tuk from the North Terminal and you have to Pay 80 Baht per Person again?? Why?? Welcome to Laos. 😂

I arrived to this bus station from Huế, Vietnam and caught a bus from here to Vientiane, the Laoatian capital, the same night. A man behind the ticket counter spoke enough English to help me procure the proper ticket. It cost me 120,000 Lao kip for a ticket to the capital on a night/sleeper bus. Plus there is a functioning ATM here at the station along with multiple restaurants, shops, places to get a cheap sim card and more.

Большой автовокзал, соединяющий Саваннакхет со всем Лаосом. Камеры хранения нет, но за символическую плату можно оставить вещи на хранение у женщины при туалете, при этом она выдаст квитанцию. Если вы едете один и покупаете билет на ночной VIP sleeping bus, то будьте готовы спать практически в обнимку с совершенно незнакомым человеком. как выглядит обычный ночной автобус затрудняюсь даже представить.

Normally you can only buy the bus ticket on the day of travel, unless you purchase it through a travel agent with a little premium. The tuk-tuk to the city should cost 10.000 kip per person, but many times they try to charge tourists twice as much.

The biggest and only bus station of the town. You can take a bus for domestic routes to the northern Laos such as: Thakhek, Paksan, Vientiane, to the southern Laos --Salavan, Sekong, Attapeu, Pakse, to Thailand and to Vietnam.
However, buses are not so well but if you take a night time route (VIP sleeping bus, to Vientiane only), it is better.response / report this review
