We stayed at Tazuru for 2 nights. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the entire staff, all wearing a kimono. The older lady was talking a lot about hotel rules, but she was speaking in japanese so we could not understand. Gladly, a new starter could speak english and translated the rules. I then enquired about renting a bike and the old lady talked about the reception door without answering my question. The newstarter translated it again and I had to ask about bike rentals again. You could imagine how long it took us to check in, considering that we were tired as we traveled from Mt. Fuji to Kyoto.

Our room was on the 6th floor. Again we were not allowed to enter the room until the old lady was finished explaining the rules (again in japanese). The room was pleasant with tatami mat with 4 futon mattresses. and a separate room with a proper bed.

If you have kids, I advise you find another accommodation if you don't want to be constantly wooried about the risk of your child falling downnthe stairs.

    What I like:
    - nice feel of traditional japanese inn
    - kimono and japanese tea sets provided so we could take some nice traditional photos
    - good location
    - helpful staff

    Dislikes:
    - safety of young kids compromised =kids could fall from corridors and stairs as there are no safe banisters or glass protection on the handrail.
    - time-consuming check in process
    - very low ceiling lights in the room = my husband is 5'10 tall and he kept on bashing his head on the lamp.
    - expensive restaurant
    - no towel rail in the bathroom

Traditional Japanese hotel, room was ok. Beware of door entrance to room as very low, bashed head. Also light fixture hangs low, knocked head a few times. Stairwells not child friendly, child could fall, see pictures. Older lady (possibly owner) very regimental in her ways, quite off putting. Rest of staff very nice and normal. Location close to main Kyoto shopping.

Very authentic Japanese experience. The Japanese breakfast was a little too far out of our comfort zone, but found the western breakfast to be very good.
