This place is a more or less OK dorm We spend 5 nights in here The staff is never here.
We have seen so many people waiting in the entrance for hours Waiting to speak to somebody to check-in (In normal hours for check-in)
The hotel provided 3 teabag for the hole hostel and nothing more for all the week.
We had a big cockroach in our room.
Bathroom and facilities are old fashion but ok.
I think for the same price we should have took any guesthouse the deal would have been better.
I'm used to riokan and futon etc. But here honestly everything could be cleaner, better and improved if they just put a little energy in it But they really look like they don't care.
Well: you need a bed for the night, you have no other options Go there. You have any other choice Take it!response / report this review -

The owner really shouldn't have called this a ryokan to begin with. For a simple Japanese style tatami room in a guesthouse this would have been fine (but expensive).
When you pay for a ryokan you have certain expectations that this will simply not meet and the owner doesn't even intend to do so.
So in short: if you were looking for a ryokan, this isn't one. You will be disappointed. There are many in Kyoto though, just keep looking :)
If you were looking for a Japanese style tatami room in a guesthouse, this isn't the best in Kyoto either. There are many that are cheaper, cleaner, have better equipment and better service. Good luck.

Dirtiest place in all of Japan. Never have I stayed at a place littered with previous occupants hairs. There was multiple colors and lengths. The bed looked previously slept in. The washroom was a mess. We arrived early to drop off our bags and check in if possible. The owner said she wouldn't accept my credit card even though the web booking said it's fine. (She does this so it's harder to get a refund)
Because it was so early we never got to see our rooms. later in the evening we saw our rooms. Terrible. We tried to get in contact to anyone who works there to no avail. We ended up booking another hotel and eating the cost.

The worst in Japan! I have never stayed in a place like this in my life. Dirty and old. There was a brown color mark on our towel. Those sheets and pillow covers were not changed at all. Why do I know? It smells. Bathroom, dirty. Owner, greedy.

The rooms are small and sparse. Walls are very thin and commodities minimal. That being said the street is quiet. Nice walk to gion corner.

Bathroom is dated, the towels looked dirty, and they charge 500 yen to watch your luggage if you come in before check in time, but they can only keep it until office hours ends. Better off leaving it in a station locker, if it fits. Seems they charge more for what you get.

For the given price it was okay (only 4000 ¥ via booking). The room was worn down and no Ryokan but a container on the roof but i liked it in general. There were stains on some furnitur and walls but linen was clean. Together with the pretty central location it is an OK place to stay if ypu are late in booking as me. The lady was not very grumpy when i checked in.

Fact: The first thing we did after checking in, was find wifi at a local coffeeshop and start googling other hotels for the night. We cut short our trip and it almost ruined our Kyoto experience.
The room was not even ready at 5 PM when we arrived. The owner, an old woman who spoke no English, was dishonest and tried to cheat us, first by trying to overcharge us, then by pretending she couldn't take credit cards. She charged before even showing us the room, and then refused to refund us when we left early.
The lights did not work. The "bed" was unsleepable. There was old hair in the bathtub. I have been to ryokans all over Japan and know what to expect. But this place, I would burn it down if I could.response / report this review -

can never put in proper writings without saying how much this ryokan ruined my kyoto trip. booked 4 person room for 2 rooms in a group of 8 persons. the lady can make changes and sold our room to other travellers before the due time for check in. and offer a 4 person room for 8 person for 8 person price. ridiculous.
