Simple yet comfortable. Clean with all necessary facilities. The owner is very friendly and speaks English.
Wonderful, wonderful experience. We stayed in the Guest Room in the main house. It is the entire upper floor, with a beautiful sleeping room, living room, restroom and wrap around deck. The decor is so lovely-- we felt so rested and relaxed. The rain made our night so cozy. And, we even got to pet the Happy Neko! ^ - ^
Great host, excellent, clean room that was cheap. Countless onsen all within five minutes walk. Highly recommend
Happy Neko is just excellent, affordable and come with a tradittional Japanese home feeling whilst some Ryokans don't. Bibo has been greatly helpful and nice. We will be back some days for sure!! Thanks Happy Neko and Bibo!!
Instead of staying in the down town of Beppu, it is better way to get an inexpensive and well allocated accommodation in Kannawa district (in where you can find a couple of onsens and so called "hells"). Japanese style guaranteed and staff is friendly and helpful!
I can`t say enough great things about this place. I opted for the small apartment instead of guest room in the main house, and it was perfect. Right near (1 min walk, if you walk slow) one bus stop and a 10 minute walk to another and to the famous Hells. There is no shower, but there are plenty of onsens right near (5 or 10 minute walk), and that is probably at least part of the reason you are going to Beppu, right? The host, Bibo, who speaks English and Czech, gave me all kinds of info about local onsens, restaurants, bus info, etc. He was awesome, friendly and helpful.
The apartment is sparse, just a low table, a couple of comfy cushions and a closet full of bedding (including an electric blanket for winter - warm, comfy!), but it was enough to set up my laptop, lean back against the wall and enjoy the free wifi while I mapped out onsens.
