We are staying here two nights. Gorgeous views. Quiet. Shuttle bus from Takayama station and to town regularly.
The only discord I have is I opted for a non-smoking room but was not given one. A simple error. If you really need a non-smoking room be sure to specify!!
Private tubs. Incredible views. Lovely staff and turndown service!
I didnt like the way I have been treated, at the time of check out 10am, they ordered me to go out and pay imediatly. The hôtel Was good but I have been very disapointed during the check out.
Having travelled and stayed in many ryokans, this is an outstanding one! The service rendered by the ryokan staff is impeccable. The level of sensibility, warmth and attention given to my wife and I were the same as those to locals. The rooms were traditional tatami styled rooms, with small tidbits gifts and a tea canister filled with sencha, giving an authentic feel. The kaiseki dinners was superb - menus were provided in English, allowing us to enjoy and understand the cuisine; the ingredients were top-notch. Another outstanding feature of Takayama Kanko is the six onsens, two public and five private (you can book only one free of charge per day), each with its distinct view and feel. Onsens would never feel boring or stale. Amenities provided are generous and in excellent condition. We would return again and this ryokan is highly recommended!
This hotel is a Ryokan and the experience is wonderful ! You have access to two public baths one at the top of the hotel and the other one at the lower level (these are onsens). You can also book a private one but refer to their website. They provide a Yukata and almost everyone wear it inside ! The breakfast is gorgeous !
Very nice location great rooms and nice onsens. But smoking smell was always in my room even though we requested a non smoking zone.
We arrived in the hotel room, greeted by a couple of snacks and hot water ready to go. It was a traditional Japanese style room with an excellent view of Takayama.
We put on our robes and headed to the ping pong room. There's free wifi in the lounge and lobby areas of you need it.
There are a bunch of private onsens that visitors can enjoy for free. You just have to reserve a time block. Ours had a wonderful view, we turned off the lights, opened up the panoramic window, and enjoyed a soak in the crisp mountain air.
We had a quiet and pleasant sleep then headed to breakfast. It was a tasty variety of traditional Japanese foods with some exotic broiled veggies and tofu. It seemed quite seasonal and very fresh.
Overall an excellent place to stay.
Beautiful views, comfortable (though a little run down) rooms, helpful & friendly staff. Located uphill, but they do provide regular bus shuttles into the main town. Many private onsen that you can book once for free, quite relaxing. Do be warned though, the restaurant here is roughly ¥6000 per person and is a degustation-type of affair. No choice. Which can be very daunting if you're not into seafood/whole fish. Though I'm sure it was lovely, it just wasn't for me.
