My family of 7 stayed at this hotel during the Montego Bay portion of our vacation. The hotel grounds are beautiful and very well kept. The staff was nice as well. I was disappointed to learn how underpaid they are though. It's crazy because the staff is making "Jamaican" wages even though Hilton is charging guests American prices! Please keep this in mind when staying and leave great tips!
The good:
-service staff are great and very helpful.
-food variety is good with quality being mostly good
-housekeeping is good
-bars and restaurants have good locations and hours
The bad:
-The beach is no good (I've seen better in Ontario), water is very murky and *relatively* rough compared to other parts of the island. Snorkeling from the beach is a definite no go. Lots of seaweed to grab at your feet. There is a newer beach where the amenities on the sand are better (but the water is still not worth seeing)
- I'm more of an adventure vacationer so I found myself bored here after a couple days of stay. You will definitely have to supplement your stay with excursions.
- many in our group ended up getting sick from something on the resort. The health inspector had to come in. Several people had to be put on IVs. I won't comment on what caused the illnesses because I don't know all the details regarding this.
The ugly:
Trainee staff (identifiable by their white shirts) are in *unpaid* "training" for 1 year with no guarantee of paid work afterwards. The only form of income they have is through tips (which are not so common in all inclusive resorts)
If this is considered 5 star, then I don't see what the hype is for all inclusive resorts - seemed pretty average to me.
The staff is courteous. They go out of their way to please. The decor is elegant and contemporary. Rooms are clean and comfortable. A variety of food is available and it's tasty and well presented. The water slide, spa and other amenities make the place great for the whole family. A nice golf course adjoins the property. I love this place.
Was disappointed that room was on lower floor with no beach view but surprisingly it is a quiet retreat that has allowed for reflection. Staff is well trained and courteous. Someone is always there to attend to your need. Food variety is good and available until late. View from poolside to beach is absolutely breathtaking. Entertainment appears to be good. Recommended.
We just got back from a 6 day stay. We had an amazing time, no complaints. The resort is clean, the food was delicious and the water park kept the kids busy all week. The staff were all very attentive and accommodating. We traveled with our 2 year old and a crib was set up in the room before we checked in. She ended up sleeping with us most nights but I couldn't blame her, the bed was incredible. We had a ocean/water park view that was beautiful. I can't wait to go back!
Hilton Rose was a very FAMILY oriented resort. Had great food and a lot of activities to do. Had a great experience with the staff especially Maurice and Leo from the bar. Had a lot of entertainment throughout the day. I accidently misplaced my passport and the hotel staff came and helped find it! Crisis averted! Overall would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Jamaica.
Wow what an experience. I read through all the negative review and here is my take.
1. The food is nice.I really enjoyed the wide option that is offered. The general wait to have my order was moderate and No employee was expectant of being tipped.
2. The rooms could be a bit bigger but it's not so small that you can't operate in there. It's an all inclusive so why would you be staying inside all day? Some persons say the rooms are dated but if you have visited a Hilton lately and you are ok with their rooms then it's almost the same here. I think all the Hilton's need an upgrade even the ones located in the USA.
3. The staff were friendly and they did sing me a Happy birthday as it was my birthday. I absolutely loved it. Thanks guys (especially Dahlia) you were all great your service actually made me want to tip which I did.
Great resort and a perfect place to come with kids - although it doesn't feel like the place is made for them specifically, which is a good thing. Everything is convenient - from food to drinks to great coffee handmade right on the beach. The only concern is with the layered system where you have to pay extra for lounger huts on the beach.
Overall a great experience and we would come back.
This is a wonderful resort with exceptional staff. There is so much to do especially with kids. My son loved the water park and beach. The food is good.. A lot of options. Jamaica night was fun, A lot of cultural info. This is a clean, safe, fun resort. I recommend it. The coffee bar is a nice touch.
This is really two properties in one. The West Wing is more business like. There is a conference room/Banquet Hall, and is a bit quiet. The East Wing is the fun part. The Water Park is very relaxing and fun. It goes through some lush tropical vegetation, and the scenery changes every few meters: it includes an elaborate waterslide with twists and turns. One can take a short break to.get a budget, hot dog, and other finger foods, right at the edge of the Water Park. The pool a d beach are also very inviting. The food is generally delicious: with many options. There's also a golf course, and a great wedding service. Great location to mix business with pleased, but one can go there for only business (West Wing) or only leisure (East Wing).
