If you're on a budget whilst travelling to Venice, this is a good hotel to stay at. My partner and I stayed in Venice for 4 nights recently and really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Centauro. It wasn't too difficult to find and the check-in process was very simple. The location is actually perfect! It is less than 5 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge and a close walk to tourist locations like the Piazza San Marco.
With the deal that we reserved on their website we got a complimentary bottle of white wine which was lovely. The cleaners were great, everything that you would expect to be cleaned was, bed was re-made and fresh towels were swapped. The rooms were very tidy and kept well. We loved waking up and having breakfast at the hotel. There was a great variety of food (pastries & breads, boiled eggs, yoghurts, meats, cheese, cereals, fruit juice, teas, coffee etc.) and delicious cakes that were different each day. The dining room was also cleaned regularly and had a lovely view of a canal and the street. The double room we booked was very small, however it was perfect for just coming back to after a long day of walking through the city and sleeping in - it fulfilled its purpose. Most of the staff were friendly and greeted you politely.
My partner has some small issues with the beds, the covers were lots of layers of sheets/quilts and not attached together in anyway. The sheet covering the mattress was just loosely sitting on the mattress, not tucked in under the mattress or held on with elastic. He felt like he was sleeping in a mess of fabric. There are no spare pillows, just the two you're supplied with. The bathroom was VERY small. The shower felt very cramped.
Overall a good Hotel if you're not planning on spending a lot of time in your room and more time out exploring the amazing city.
Not a very good stay at Hotel Centauro. We paid for canal views but couldn't see any view due to a very deep ledge. We had 2 rooms and voiced our disappointment to front desk men and they just argued with us that it's canal view. I said well yea it's on canal side but No View. They didn't care. My sisters room was on a huge slant and no view either. No elevator and our rooms were like 6 flights up. Hairdryers need to be updated to this century. They are like a weird vacuume hose thing that puts out little or no air. We loved Venice but we're disappointed with hotel Centauro and would not stay there again!
Hotel Centauro is a great spot for tourists in Venice who want a central location but aren't fussed on the overall quality of the hotel. We had a double room that had a small ensuite, a comfortable bed, a wardrobe, desk, venezian decor and stocked mini fridge which we used to store our own water(drinking the mini fridge contents would cost as you'd expect). Free breakfast was continental and it was a good enough spread which is handy for anyone travelling on a budget as food is expensive. We filled up as much as we could which saved us some money! Location makes this hotel a hands down winner. It is 5 mins from the Realto Bridge meaning to get anywhere, we didn't need to use the waterbus once as we could cross the grand canal with ease. There are lots of highly rated restaurants nearby also. My major critique of the hotel is that it had no iron in the room or ironing room which is a first for me and I have stayed in tons of hotels. It meant I couldn't wear a lot of what I had packed so if you are staying there, pre-iron your wrinkly clothes and pack carefully, then hang up your clothes in the wardrobe on arrival. Overall, this hotel has room for improvement however at the cost we paid with the location we got, we were impressed and I would likely stay there again if I am on a budget next time. P.S. We are a gay couple who were made welcome throughout our entire stay. I noticed a prior review around homophobia that I completely disagreed with.
Location was great, rooms were clean and spacious with cold a/c and the breakfast was a nice buffet.
Grand old building in good central location, friendly and helpful staff. Would give it 5 but breakfast was average.
Great room. Very clean and the vibe is very traditional European. Quiet. The hotel offers free breakfast which is another good experience. The staff is very friendly.
Clean hotel, the breakfast is very good. The owner and the employee are very kind and helpful. Good choice.
This is a cool hotel tucked away in one of Venice's side streets. The staff was very helpful and free breakfast. Mostly sweet stuff nothing hot like eggs or bacon. Also keep in mind this place was built in the 1500's. That being said the bathroom was remodeled and the room was really clean. If you're there the explore the city and only use the hotel for sleep and a shower then this is a great place.
Room was comfy and the hotel was very quiet. Breakfast was great and had really good croissants, bread, and real fruit salad that they made there. The coffee was also very fresh and good. Unfortunately, the staff was not that great. When we got there, the girl that was working was very indifferent and not helpful at all. Later, two different men worked and they were much better and kinder. Also, no one helped us carry the luggage to our room so my mother and I had to carry our 20kg luggages up two flights of stairs. Overall a good experience for the price, but could be better.
