Room was nice, staff was friendly but my room was across from the kitchen and other guests were quite loud late at night. Overall a good hostel though.

The setting is beautiful but the hostel lacks the finishing touches tat would make for a pleasant stay. There was no hot water in the kitchen on rooms, and the shower was too hot to stand under (could not adjust as it is a push button operation) if they spent a bit of time and money this could be an amazing venue!

We stayed in the newer annex (see my pics) that looks very modern and almost brand-new. Our room included a private bathroom. In fact, all rooms in that annex looked like they had a private bathroom because there was only a WC in the hallway, no shower.
    Breakfast was pretty good.
Note that this hostel is in the middle of nowhere. Nearest restaurant is 5 kms away, there are no grocery stores within 50 kms. So better stock up and make your own plans for dinner if you don't plan to go to the restaurant (pricey!). Building next door has a kitchen where you're allowed to cook, if you bring your own supplies.

This hostel has a modern annex with great rooms and bathrooms with heated floors. The breakfast was served in a room that looked like a trendy coffee shop. It was more like a hotel than a hostel.

we book double room with private bathroom. the building is new and the room was new . simple furniture and small bathroom. the heater is not very hot and we heard some of the guess mention no heater in the room. the share kitchen is in the other building (hostel building). drive out of the hostel compound your can catch the aurora as the place is dark. Fill up the gas as the nearest gas station if not mistaken at least 40km away. also stock up your food.

Nice new building (if you order for the new building). Modern rooms with bathroom Very nice. Lovely breakfast. Calm! Only remark is that the kitchen to cook in the evening is in a other building which is to small.

Well I'm a patient traveler and intend to see things positive but my experience in this place wasn't pleasant! When you arrive after hours of driving and tired, you just want to receive a welcome approach by the host! while I was registered as a member online, I had to connect to the wifi in the hostel to prove that I'm a member, then she denied because she calimed my wife should also have been registered as member to be eligible! Honestly I didn't care about that 10% at all, I just needed to get checked in and have some rest but I had to do a lot of answering and proofs for no reason!

We held a family gathering at Vagnstaðir, most of the rooms in the new building were occupied by family members. The rooms were very comfortable and very clean. The price of the rooms were kr20.000 per night excluding breakfast which was kr2.000 extra which we found was very pricey. Check out time was ten o'clock in the morning, normal check out time elsewhere is usually twelve o'clock. When questioned, I was told the staff finished at three o'clock, and when we checked out, would we strip the beds and place the dirty linen in the basket in the hall way. We wondered what do the staff do. I think they should change their policy if they want more guests.

Good location but super pricey considering it's only a hostel with not much add on. If you're not a member of the HI hostel then you'd have to pay and extra 800isk per person. Bring your sleeping bag as you'd need to pay for the lining otherwise. There are only 3 showers to be shared with he entire hostel. Good kitchen and view from the dining area.

Ideal lounging place for all kinds of people. Kitchen is stuffed with all kinds of utensils who want to cook themselves and believe me you will have to cook yourself as the nearest town is 2 hour drive. This place is in the middle of nowhere which makes it even more spectacular.

    Great hostel
    In the middle of nowhere
    You can rent cottage
Make sure to have food with you

The cottage is 10 - 15 meters away from the main building where you can use the kitchen, showers, Wi-Fi etc. The cottage has 1 table and 4 chairs. 2 bunk beds (lower beds are double and upper beds are normal size).
Vagnsstaðir is 28 KM east of Jökulsárlón (The Glacier Lagoon) and 50 KM west of Höfn town.

Awesome place. Susannah was really cool and the location was great. Make sure you get some food outside town before rocking up
