Very good location, just at the corner you have a 24 hour / 7 days a week supermarket - which I have visited numerous times in an effort to save some money. It is also an affordable choice for Iceland's standards. Clean overall and the owner was really helpful with any request. The reason why I put 4 stars instead of 5 , is that when I arrived (like other guests the next days) we were obliged to call a specific number in order to have access to the rooms. However, not all have the credit to make an international very expensive call. I think that they should consider changing this policy. Otherwise, a highly recommended hostel!

Let's begin by saying: "manage your expectations!" It's a budget-friendly hostel, after all. Having said that, my review will be based on what I would expect from a low-cost accomodation such as this one.
To begin, finding the place wasn't all that hard. Google Maps brought us directly to the building, but finding the entrance was a bit tricky. You have to walk all around to the back of the building, past the supermarket and restaurants, and you'll see the 'Sport Hostel' sign and entrance.
We weren't received by anyone. On the desk, instead, there were envelopes with names written on them and keys to their respective rooms. We were all given keys to room two. I have no idea how the other rooms are distributed, but this one had 3 bunk beds to the left and 2 bunk beds to the right, with a half-wall division between the two areas. There's a sink, a mirror and a wardrobe on the right side, and two wardrobes on the left side. On the half-wall division, some coat hangers and shoe racks are available to everyone in the room.
The room has two lightswitches (one for each side), but the light of any one of the sides is enough to completely light up the other. Additionally, every bed has a bedlamp attached. The windows are very well covered by blackout drapes, too. The one thing that drove me crazy was the door slamming. The doors are set to automatically close themselves, but they are super loud. You will definitely wake up with that noise.
The rest of the hostal is pretty small. There are two regular bathrooms, with showers, and a wheelchair accesible one. Nothing much to say about them except that you will share them with everyone staying at the hostel. Bring your own towel and soap! There's also a small kitchen with a mini oven, a microwave, a fridge, a two-burner cooktop, and some miscellaneous tools for cooking.
The hostel is located in a shopping center, so there's a 24-hour Iceland supermarket, a couple of restaurants, a bakery, a pharmacy, and some other random businesses. On the other side of the street, there's more fast food establishments, like KFC, for example. Also, a bust stop is right outside the hostel. Take bus number 14 towards Hlemmur and you will be in Reykjavik downtown area in a matter of minutes.
To wrap this up, it was an okay stay. Sport Hostel is well equipped and very conveniently located. They could do with having a staff member around for, at least, office hours. And, in the end, your stay will br as good as the manners of the guests sharing room with you. In my case, some were lacking manners and common sense as to what to do when living and coexisting with others. But, it all went well through the four nights of my stay!response / report this review -

Rooms size is ok. We arrived late, wrote this in tha Reservation. At tge hostel we called him, the Manager was a bit angry that he get our call at this time. We slepzlt well, its quiet, simple kitchen. Just erverything you need for a night

My wife & I stayed here for two nights in May 2017. Our room was above a karaoke bar, so we could hear the music/singing until after 2 AM on a Friday night. Saturday night was much quieter, but we could still hear it a bit. Also, our room had an "EXIT" sign above the door that was much too bright; I covered it with a towel. Strange that such a tiny room featured such a radiant "EXIT" sign, if you ask me. Besides that, it was pretty ok; clean, simple accommodations at an unbeatable price. Due to the noise, however, I will not stay here again.

Free parking, great local amenities, relatively close to Reykjavik city centre (on a bus route), comfy beds, great facilities.

Awesome. Small neat rooms. Max 30 people in hostel. 2 showers. 3 bathrooms. Small kitchen. Awesome manager, good tips on Iceland. Really relaxed atmosphere. Feels like a home. Easy environment to make friends. Went in Springtime, less crowded.
ProTip. Remember your countries extension code when calling the manager to let you into your room. He is often out. For the USA, it us 01 then the number (which is posted on the door)response / report this review -

El espacio es muy amplio, las camas son cómodas y el lugar está muy bien ubicado, cerca tienes donde comer, comprar, visitar y estación del bus para ir al centro de la ciudad

IMPORTANT: you must let him know when you are arriving, or have phone to call him. You may get stuck for hours waiting for him to show up.
Except for that, it's a really good place. Location is a little further out than others but for the price why not. Close to alcohol, hagkaup vidir and useful amenities. Note wifi pwd.response / report this review -
