Great stop along the Ring Road (Route 1) providing a protected and guided step into a lava field. Make the effort to stop here and not trapse on the delicate moss and lava rock elsewhere. Lots of photo opportunities that will look good in any weather, because really, can you take a bad photo in Iceland?! There is a small path sectioned off allowing you to walk among the moss and experience how the lava formed the terrain. Watch your step!

Large parking space accommodates many vehicles. Located directly off Route 1 with clear signage you can't miss.

Don't miss this landscape scenery. Old lava flows from the 1700s it is covered in mosque and it is gorgeous.

Unexpected stop along the main road. Spent about 20 minutes looking around and learned that this is the only area in Iceland to feature this particular type of puffy, moss-covered lava. Was certainly worth a quick stop.

Must see stop along the road. The wooly moss covering lava rocks makes for a surreal landscape. After driving through it for awhile it is great to stop for a brief walk.

This lava boulders covered with moss are all around iceland. If you don't have time you can skip this place and just make a stop on a different location when your time permits.

Very interesting rest area along the N1 road. Here you can learn about one of the most violent volcano eruption in Iceland. The lava field are a dramatic view and remembrance of that event dating back to eighteenth century.

Beautiful location to take a walk around near the south coast of Iceland. The lava field is huge so you'll be driving a distance through it to reach the pull off.
