My friend and I really loved this place. Very fresh fish and great selection. If you want to experience Icelandic food, this is a great spot. Keep in mind that this is a fish market. The restaurant is small and it does smell like fish, which adds to it's charm. It is also very clean (clean wash rooms can tell you a lot about how clean a restaurant is in the kitchen). The prices are reasonable and you truly get to experience Icelandic food. I definitely recommend trying Sægreifinn.

P.S. I personally feel like this is more of a "lunch" place verses a "dinner" place.

Lobster soup was tasty and had chunks of lobster that was melt in your mouth tender. It comes with bread and butter. All the seafood come simply prepared on skewers. The three we tried (redfish, monk fish and halibut) were tender, moist and tasty. There was about 6oz on each skewer. With 2 beers, the bill was 7800ka. The restaurant is pretty rundown and drafty near doors, which cost it one star. There's a huge kids' playroom, but that's all I can say because my wife wouldn't let me try it out. Would definitely return to try other fish, but not the minke.

We got the lobster soup and the salmon skewers. It was delicious. We were worried as the front of the restaurant was packed but when we ordered they took us to the back where they had more tables. They had many fish options and displayed nicely so you can visualize. Pricing was typical Icelandic prices.

Amazingly delicious! The entire restaurant smells like butter, which was a good start. The lobster soup + bread hit the spot on a cold day. Would definitely go again. Just be aware that the words album is please and it can get crowded very fast period

I was attracted by the famous lobster soup here from few Chinese travel books. Shop location was easy to find, just next to the old harbour. Lobster soup and barbecued would be ordered. Lobster soup‘s concentration wasn’t as thick as I expected, but I was still good to warm me up in the snowing and windy night. The barbecue scallops and salmon were still juicy and fresh. There are lack of rooms inside the shop, however if you have many friends to go together, it should not the good location for dining. Hope you would enjoy this restaurant regarding my information 😊

Really cool spot. I had the whale sample which was incredibly unique. The kababs were amazing. It's just a neat set up, you sit cafeteria style next to strangers which get you to interact. If you only get one skewer, I recommend the monk fish. It was incredible. The service was great, the food was spectacular. The only thing I wish they had was better beer, but then again, Iceland doesn't have much for good beer. If you are in Reykjavik, this is definitely a place that needs to be visited at least once. It's not fine dining, but if you want amazing food in a cool setting, this is the place to go. After, you can go to the local brewery down the street to get your beer fix

Great amazing place! It is a small and authentic place that has been here for years. You will get the old Icelandic experience of a little local fishplace. The lobster soup is amazing and one of their specialties. An absolute must have. The scallops are also amazing and should be tried out, along with the whale beef. Only downside is that you have to buy sides separate. But then again this is a small authentic place.

Love Sægreifinn - go there every time I‘m in Reykjavík, stopping for the lobster soup, which is really good. Staff is often stressed, but mostly friendly. Wait a bit in crowded times - it‘s worth it!

The fish is fresh, deliciously prepared on the grill. You‘ll also get whale if you want.

last visit was 10 yrs ago, has expanded since. obviously has become really popular, lobster soup, skewered fish and scallops a "big must". nice and really friendly staff. i adore this place. pay parking nearby.

This place is cosy and unpretentious. The fish kebabs served here is really fresh and grilled to perfection. Our favourite is cod fish, salmon and shrimps. The lobster soup was also really delicious and comes with huge chunks of lobster meat and bread on the side. Soup is flavourful but not too heavy on the palate.

Worth the extra walk down to the waterfront, even in the summer rain, to visit this little unfussy and eclectic little gem. We went early, highly recommended, to ensure we got a seat. As promised in all the reviews, the lobster soup was delicious and filling, though not so that we couldn't also find room for the salmon, scallop and prawn skewers (shared between 4) plus my son was highly taken by the bread basket. Very accommodating of our need for some gluten-free servings. As with most things in Iceland this was not cheap, but it was an experience worth paying for.

Uniquely furnushed, very nice staff. Great fresh fish options and soup. This place concentrates on fish and fish only, beside whale. Catch is fresh and thus limited,it is well prepared though. Sideorders (potatoes and vegetabe) are to be had for an extra fee. Desert is really yummy.

Good place to get a seafood fix. Lobster soup is with it, and the scallop skewer seems like I good deal. I'm used to scallops costing more in Canada. Wide variety of sauces available.

It's setup so that you order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you. There's additional seating in the back, and a covered patio.

I don't believe we should be hunting whales, so I chose to not try the minke whale steaks.

Tasty, fresh dishes! The food offerings are a bit limited, but all delicious (we got quite a few things and split them). The space is tiny but we got a table in the quiet upstairs section and it was perfect. Be prepared to stand a while - the queue took about 30+ minutes from the door outside to the register to order, with lots of navigating waiters trying to constantly squeeze through us.

Great concept for a restaurant. Soup was good, grilled fish was good. Craft beer available, staff was friendly. Standard (expensive in a worldwide spectrum) prices for food. Soup was $12 for a bowl and some bread. One skewer of Fish and a few onion/peppers was about $16. Two people ate well for $60-70 or so.

What a wonderful surprise. Clearly popular with the locals, we were afraid we wouldn't have a place to sit. There is a dining room upstairs with family style tablesperfect for large groups. (were were 9)
We started with lobster soup, I had the Icelandic trout, and others had wolf fish. All was so very delicious.

My favorite restaurant in Iceland. The fish kebabs are fresh and perfectly grilled. The prices are reasonable for Iceland (and for fresh seafood on the water, generally). Despite my philosophical objections - the whale sample is amazing. Get a lobster soup to warm your soul and enjoy what Iceland does best: farm the sea.

My first experience eating whale meat and most likely my last as well. The local delicacy isn't my cup of tea. The staff are so very friendly and the one thing I can remember is how unique and maritime themed the interiors were.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting iceland for the first time.
