I only stopped at this airport in order to transfer to Copenhagen but I found this airport very cute and convenient! I took these pictures from the near by places to my gate since I didn’t have so much time to walk around! But I liked the place specially with those cute little gift shops!
Insufficient service and rude staff, especially security! The funny thing, they think they are good at hospitaliy :)) Our flight cancelled due to weather conditions, we had to stay one night in this terrible airport..Let’s thats because of weather and that’s fine but they threatened us to kick out of airport with police just because we are sitting free copy newspapers!! When I asked the reason, what they can just say we’re told you can’t sit on this newspaper!! There were no place all night to sit, what kind of cruel people you are? Shame on you!!
Nice airport, well designed and easy to navigate through. Has some good food places as well as a well sorted duty free at arrival. Since liquor (and everything else) is quite expensive, its worth taking a bottle or two there.
A big ThankYou to the nice people of the Lost & Found department for taking care about my lost camera! ;)
p.s.: if you fly Icelandic Airlines, you'll get your first impression of northern lights already on the plane (see image attached) ;)
My God is it busy! It's convenient to connect to get to the rest of Europe, but holy cow it is crazy! After getting off the plane, we got on to a bus where the driver drove wickedly fast. Many people were worried we were going to tip over. I understand it's not a large airport, but letting four planes worth of people off to get through customs was madness. My wife and I had to SPRINT to catch our connecting flight to Munich. We were so close that we weren't on the plane five minutes before we started taxiing.
This airport is pretty small and have limited flights. Nothing to do here, so don't kill your time over there. And it say it's domestic but you can go to Faroe Islands, which is amazing.
a super small airport with one small café, where you can fly to faroe islands.
To say this is the worlds worst airport is a big statement - I haven't been to all the airports in the world, far from it, but Reykjavik airport is really bad!! It is a really poorly signed airport with staff who are absolutely useless.
We arrived from Munich on a Icelandair flight only to be sent through passport control - there was no other way to go - we were sent to automated gates for boarding passes for outbound flights (ours did not work as we were staying in Iceland) we got walked around the gates by the staff and sent downstairs through duty free where we reached a point with three arrival signs all pointed in different directions.so we asked a staff member who sent us back where we cames from only for another staff member to send us back down and direct us in completely the wrong direction. All the staff we asked said don't listen to other staff and sent us in opposite directions - we eventually reached another passport control which was closed - a staff member checked out passports - crossed out the stamps we had previously gotten and walked us through a closed locked door - after 45 mins of wandering we found the baggage carousel and got our bags. We also found one of the most disgusting toilets you'll come across - hoping Iceland is better than it's airport..
Completely insufficient for the amount of traffic coming in, hence the delays. You may not even land at a gate. For example, my flight landed and then took two buses to the terminal. For some reason they check everyone's passports even if you are not spending a second on Icelandic soil. Huh!? Yes, it is true. Don't expect it to get better any time soon. Instead of adding seating areas and wider hallways, they are jamming the halls with restaurants and shops. FYI don't be at all surprised if your flight is leaving when you touch down. Everyone is in the same boat so don't sweat it. You should make it on your flight, albeit a late one.
This is a terrible airport, not remote prepared to handle the traffic through it at peak hours. We just took a trip to Europe and back on Icelandair. The airline itself is great. Inexpensive and good service. But since everything passes through this airport on Icelandair, figure dealing with this wretched place as a cost of your inexpensive ticket. On the way over, we arrived as did about 10 other flights. There was one staircase up to passport control that everyone had to take. Inexplicably, they had turned off the one escalator. Old people we struggling to get luggage up the staircase. Lines at passport control were long and slow. Then, when one arrives at the "gate" one discovers there is in fact no jetway. So you get to stand in line for about half and hour, after which they check boarding passes and usher you into a stable to await the very slow bus that will drive you out (in heavy rain, with no protection after you leave the bus). Then you stand on the bus for a fairly extended period of time before they open the airplane and actually allow boarding. On the return, passport control lines were short, but the bus routine was ever worse. At least 30 minutes standing on each of the three phases of their boarding system.
Oh, and since Icelandic is running a very tight hub and spoke connection system, there's no time to get food, shop or do anything else. And the number of bathrooms is pathetic for the passenger volume at peak hours. I love that their fares are low, and the actual experience once you finally get on a plane is fine. But the airport itself is a reason to consider other, even if more expensive, ways to get anywhere.
Thanks to piss poor passport control with a quarter of a mile line, info board that listed our flight had departed an hour early and about 15 chairs to sit in at the gate. Combined with a free for all at the gate to check in. And as I write this we should have taken off 20 minutes ago. About 25% of the plane has been boarded cause there are not enough buses to bring passengers to the plane. Icelandic air totally dropped the ball. Forget the stigma behind united. Icelandic is now the international equivalent of an old Russian crop duster operated by a drunk.
IcelandAir kept delaying flights and ended up cancelling. They sent around a worker handing out vouchers for dinner at 10pm saying our crew was on the way and then cancelled 30 minutes later without an announcement. We noticed our flight wasn't on the screen and had to wait another 2 hours in a line to get a hotel. Now we're in the hotel line going on an hour. NEVER FLY ICELANDAIR! THEY DON'T HELP YOU WITH RESCHEDULING AND FLIGHTS SURGED BY 5K
Conveniently located, free wifi, you only need to be there 30' before the scheduled departure of your flight.
OMG, Beautiful place. Perfect place. I need live here
Very nice staff, offered us chocolate and the helicopter tour was amazing. Much better than the international airport here
Flew in here before. Pretty nice place but we couldn't find any food. Ended up with cold sandwiches from a vending machine
