Good, clean, spacious airport! Even when crowded, you won't feel like you are on top of others while you are getting to the plane. Lines can be long but move quickly. It is also a very quiet airport (if you are used to crazy ones like JFK like I am) so if you need to nap between layovers or just want some peace and quiet as well as a place to stretch out, you can absolutely accomplish that here! They also offer a variety of shuttles to and from the airport to various destinations - just check with your flight attendant or a service rep when you land for more help!
The most efficient airport I've ever been to. Security was very organized and efficient. Everything went very smoothly. I was very impressed, and I wish all airports would adapt the systems KEF airport has. We bought water and some food before our flight since it was a lot cheaper than buying it on the plane. The food area was very busy, but there were many check-out lanes open so the line moved quickly. I would recommend at least buying water or filling up your water bottle before your flight or you will have to buy water on the plane. Make sure to get to your gate early as you will most likely need to take a shuttle to your plane.
Super efficient & clean airport.
I was on Iceland air out of Toronto bound to Frankfurt Germany.
We were late out of Toronto due to a snow storm so it was going to be a photo finish on my connecting flight.
we landed just as my connection was to leave. the Iceland Air staff got us off the plane fast & on a special shuttle to the the main terminal & right to customs. The airport staff & Iceland air staff got me through customs quickly & with a smile.
I made my connection (they held the flight) much to the chagrin of my fellow passengers. lots of long faces..sorry gangsheet happens.
All in all we made it to Frankfurt on time thanks to the Keflavik & Iceland Air staff.
Customer service is king these days. Good job guys. I will be back for sure.
I love this airport. I have been to dozens around the world and this one is the only one that hasn't annoyed or made me mad going through security. The self check-in was a breeze with our luggage and everyone in security was so friendly. Love it!
If you come to this airport, go to their restroom!!! seriously, I just love their restroom. I don't want to spoil it but just go and look it for yourself. Girls, you will be so happy to see everything is in one place for you. Airport is small and easy to go around, Products from blue lagoon and variety of chocolate, salt, wool and souvenirs. I like how they always check your boarding pass in every purchase and TSA staff is friendlier than other international airport that i know of. overall, I been to this airport, round trip for 3 times in the last 2 weeks and can tell you, it's the best international airport I ever been.
Decent small airport, could use better signage, need management when boarding to speed up the process. When boarding plans, long lines form better be sure you'll in the right place. No seating really. But if coming into iceland they do have a shop were you can get food and drinks for a good price.
I was flying through Iceland air to Finland and I had a stopover here. Everyone here is super nice! My brothers and I had a bit of trouble at Passport check but the lady was nice enough to let us through. But, the gates there are weird. You sit on the floor in the middle of a hallway near a regular door. You walk through the normal door and you are in the tunnel to the plane.
The Reykjavik airport is the perfect mixture of modern technology and traditional culture. Walking through, you are greeted into each new area with a completely different lighting scheme to match the mood that that area’s furniture gives off.
For instance, the shops area is well lit with a cooler light, reminiscent of what one would feel walking into an H&M. The dining area is lit with a warmer more invited light. These schemes continue throughout the terminal.
One would be remissed if one failed to mention the long curving wooden bench that resides in the central area of the terminal. The natural wood, paired with phone chargers built into the bench provides a unique view into what I like to imagine the culture of Iceland to be. Modern. Elegant. Down to Earth. As I peer out the window, scouring the morning sky for a glimpse at the morning lights only to catch a glimpse of my own reflection, and this, I realize, is enough.
Upon arrival from England, we found a huge line for immigration. Only 2 booths open with immigration staff standing around not doing anything. Finally they opened some EU automatic gates opened but it caused delays because they opened it late and had to get people out of the non EU lane. Then we went to get our bags. The signs we clear and easy to follow. Toilets were everywhere. Bags came exceptionally quickly. Other than immigration, it's a pretty good airport.
Airport is expensive to eat in and the food unless you’re buying the $42.00 lamb is very under promised. Our cold sandwich with “avocado, tomato, cheese and mango sauce” had only egg and 1 piece of semi-gone bad lettuce. Save your money and bring your own food/snacks. The best deal in town is at the Joe and the Juice if you get the coupon at the “guide book.” Buy a sandwich, $10 juice and you get a free coffee of your choosing.” Best if you’re traveling with a partner so you can split the food.
Keflavik International airport is a small airport which makes it not too busy. The facilities are all pretty good. The layout is good and gates are easily accessible. There is even a tax free area for arrivals which I have never seen before so +1 for that. Moreover staff is friendly and security check goes relatively fast.
This airport is incredibly beautiful! The architecture is fantastic, and it was a wonderful place to land. I was in and out very quickly, and the duty free shops are awesome. There's also easy transportation to and from the hotel with Gray Line. It was great overall.
Airport is really good. And unique. It's not that big and not that busy but the people are just too friendly. I mean, comparable to like Canadians! So good. I rated 5 stars because it was like a gateway to the other (good) side of the planet. Away from the hustle bustle of the cities. Must visit place.
The airport is nice however at the Duty Free Shop prices were right for the "booze" we are going to gift to family and friends. However other things are just not priced right. Watch what you buy and don't let the Duty Free concept take you for a ride before you ride if you get my drift. Anyways you have to go through the stores to get to your gates like a lot of places in Europe for better or worse.
Pretty small airport. Most of the shops were closed when I arrived although it was 11am. We rented cars and had to take a bus shuttle to reach. It was pretty easy and convenient.no fuss
The terminals where nice and clean, lots of windows and light. Bathrooms where very clean. Except the standard over priced food (like $9 for a fast food cheeseburger) it was an over all great transfer. I was only here for layovers and both times less than an hour; even with the cops needing to remove a disruptive passenger before take off (which they did very tactfully). I don’t hold that against the airport, transatlantic flights are long and most passengers didn’t seem to be enjoying the flight. Overall I like the idea of having a break to the long flight.
I was quite concerned about catching my connecting flight when I arrived but the process was fast and simple. I was unable to try any foods or go into the shops because my next flight was boarding but it seems wonderful. For a first time traveler out of the country, it made me want to come back and actually spend time in Iceland!
Beautiful airport with friendly staff. Beautiful artwork and architecture throughout. Nicely reflects contemporary Nordic design and has a nice Icelandic feel to it. However it is seriously expensive and located far from Reykjavik. For longer layovers bring lunch and drinks.
This airport I think aims to make air travel even more unpleasant than it already is (which I thought was not possible)
There are so few seats that people have to sit on the floors in sleeping bags like refugees, and the washrooms are equally small. Never have I seen an airport with such atrocious boarding lines that could not be more confusing. (Refer to the photo, where four booked flights have been crammed into a giant cluster of people)
Tldr; this airport is where dreams go to die (quite fitting for Iceland)
It's not built to sustain the volume of people that come through. First time I traveled through, I thought it was random. The last time I traveled through, I realized that it's a management issue and that this is not a random phenomenon. The halls to the gates are narrow, there's virtually no seating by gates, and the halls were so crowded that literally nobody could move 2 inches to get through to their gates, me and a few fellow passengers had to walk behind a person in a wheelchair to get through. Gate changes for my flight happened 8 times, 8. 8 times. All the while, the monitor still showed the original gate and still displayed that the departure time was correct. A bunch of flights get to the gates at the same time (I've seen this happen 3 times now), so the lines are very long for immigration and stores. The bathrooms are huge, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the technology is modern.
Not a bad airport, but it's smaller than I thought it would be considering it's an international airport. We were checked through customs quickly enough and were able to board the coach to the capital within the hour. It's a shame that there is only the option of taking the road and there is not yet something like a train into the city.
Very dirty baby strollers. Empty bottles on the floor and all over before security check. They force you through a shop after security check with all kinds of candy and colorful things by hand, try to go through that with 3 kids, if I want to go to a shop I'll decide it myself thanks. I visited the toilet and flush did not work. The kids area has disappeared, they just left a tiny Lego table, and put more shops instead.2 hour delay because shortage of man power in the airport (said the captain of the aircraft).
The airport is small, and the shuttle thing feels like they might have had more success than they can handle - but then again, a shuttle from the plane to the terminal went smooth and was quick . The terminals are small, but going from one connection to another was very smooth despite the huge amount of travellers there. The prices in duty free are high - they were higher or equivalent to normal prices in Denmark (where I'm at) - and they are high! Coffee was the equivalent to 5 dollars - but maybe that's common in airports. Dragging the experience down is that all personnel don't smile and actually seem almost even unfriendly. As I found that weird I tried all tricks to make them smile and say "have a good day" - but no success.
Small, but there is everything you need and it has a nice atmosphere. You can check in and drop your baggage at your own! But: We flew at 7.20 in the morning and there were so many people, the queues were extremly long! We had to wait very long and dropped our baggage in the last minute before closing. We were at the airport at 5 am. My advise: Be at least 2.5 hours before the flight at the airport - especially when you have to return a car!
Airport is too small for the volume of passengers that come through. The food areas, particularly for arrivals, is oftentimes dirty with dirty places and glasses still on tabletops. Check-in was also a mess on the departures side with airport staff misdirecting us with ski bags to go through the main baggage drop off rather than the oversized drop off (oversized area was obstructed by the sheer mass of people checking in). Airport could improve by spending some of the tourist dollars on expanding the airport. It is becoming increasingly clear that Iceland wants to bring in tourist dollars at the lowest possible investment. Eventually, I think travelers will start to become more annoyed at the bare bones "tourist farming" and choose other avenues to access Europe.
Fantastic airport, compared with others I've been to. There are some really great food outlets with a variety of different options and cuisines and everything is very well laid out. The main terminal building looks very modern and clean. Security personnel were friendly and helpful which makes a huge difference to the experience there. Was a little disappointed by the selection at duty free, and the person who served me there barely made eye contact, never mind attempting conversion.
One fantastic feature for me was that there is a smoking area after the security checkpoints. I really dislike flying and this is always compounded by the stress of not being able to have a cigarette for the couple of hours between going through security and takeoff. Overall, a very good experience for an infrequent flyer.
Nice, clean, small airport..They could put more chair and make it bigger in a waiting place since Iceland has more tourist coming in.
You cannot take a nap there Toilets are in the lower level but no lift so stair are the only way to get there. Things are really expensive here compare to states or Europe. If you miss fly bus you have to wait for another flight to land which could take 2-4 hours handing around in the airport. If you are a city person, this place will not be your cup of tea.
It's nice cause they take back your coins in exchange of your currency this is something we don't see often.
But the people working at the airport were really disrespectful.
I felt a bit of xenophobia too
Plus, you simply cannot take a nap there I understand the policy they wanted to imply since the most tourists that go to Iceland are backpackers, these people usually carry sleeping bags or something, and there were some folks laying on the floor trying to sleep with their sleeping bags I agree, this shouldn't be allowed, it's not the place for that but come on I couldn't even rest my eyes a bit while sat at the bench waiting for my flight cause there was that guy that works there disturbing me all the time. I just got really pissed! (I have no problem with the guy, besides that he was really disrespectful but with this stupid no discrimination policy)
All the rest pretty good! Everything clean and neat, good food although expensive.
