Our rental with Lava Auto through Northbound was an excellent experience. Their customer service was top notch. Their pick up service at the airport was very responsive - we were late for the initial pick up and did not have a phone but they responded immediately and came within 5 minutes when we emailed them from the airport. Our Dacia Duster was an excellent car for driving around Iceland and it was clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this rental service.

Very good customer service, excellent live chat reactivity. Note that Northbound are a broker for rental businesses and not a car rental.
An edit: the company who actually operates the vehicles (not Northbound themselves but Go Rental) tried to debit us for alleged damage a week after we returned the car.response / report this review -

Booked with Lava Auto (who were great) through Northbound. They gave us a fantastic rate on the hire, an easy to use service and there's plenty of good advice on Iceland and driving in Iceland on the website.

No problems at all. Pick up and drop off at Airport quick. Lagoon staff friendly and informative explaining things clearly . Car clean and as booked. thank you for providing ideal transport for a great time in Iceland at a reasonable price. Would use again :)

We chose Northbound because of its lower prices and its excellent customer reviews. Turns out our decision was a good one. Staff was very friendly at check in and check out. There were no surprise charges at check out or after we got home. The Dacia Logan diesel was the perfect vehicle for the four of us and our baggage. The stick shift was easy to use, the engine had surprising power especially at low revs, the ride was quite comfortable, the noise from the studded tires was not too bad, the mileage was phenomenal, and the steering and braking were confidence inspiring. There was no owners manual so it took a while to figure out how to bring up the dashboard menu but that wasn't a big deal. The wipers needed to be replaced but were adequate. Refueling was frustrating not because of the vehicle, but because of the European style pumps where you can't always just put in your card and fill to the top. Overall our rental experience was excellent and we would rent from Northbound again, and we would certainly recommend them to anyone. Good job.

I was nervous about using a broker to book my recent car rental in Iceland as I have had a few bad experiences in the past with others. That being said Northbound was Perfect! They were by far the best quote I received while looking for a capable 4WD to drive around Iceland in the winter! Everything was quick, easy and well explained!
On a side note I ended up renting a 2014 Dacia Duster (Diesel w/ a MT) from Lagoon and both were great as well!response / report this review -

Professional, friendly, easy check in and check out. Prices better than other companies ( we used Lava Car Rental) and they did not charge for some extras that other companies charged. Northbound is great because they have numerous companies to compare and choose a car.

We used Northbound to rent our car through Lagoon car rental. It was very easy, fast and even a little cheaper than other options we found. It was also easy to change our reservation before our trip. We will use them again when we return!

Northern Lights Car Rental picked my wife and I up from the airport and while it felt a little bit like we were being read the riot act on the way to pick up the vehicle, the employee provided us with a lot of good information and warnings about concerns we would not have considered otherwise (e.g., damages caused by horses and wind).
When we picked up the vehicle the first thing we noticed was that it had studded winter tires and good tread (this was not the case for a few people we met who had rented from other companies).
No surprises were encountered upon or after returning the vehicle and the staff were polite and friendly during the inspection and while shuttling us back to the airport.
I plan on renting from Northern Lights Car Rental again next time I'm in Iceland!response / report this review -

Lo recomiendo totalmente. Además de tener un buen precio es un coche 4x4 y cómodo. Se toman la molestia de irte a buscar al aeropuerto o a donde sea a partir de las 7 am y si se sale de madrugada te dan la opción de dejar el coche directamente en el aeropuerto.
