Herjólfsdalur looks like a giant natural amphitheatre, with stupendous rocks rising up on all sides. It's intimidatingly beautiful, whichever angle you look at it. The walk along the top ridge is one not to be missed. You can see why in my description (including pictures of stunning views along the way!) if you search for 'The walking track to Herjólfsdalur - The Valley of Magic' on my blog Wilderness Coffee & Natural High (wildernesscoffee-naturalhigh). It takes about 1,5 to 2 hours to complete the main track at a leisurely pace, but the distraction rate is very high. The walk can be done in both directions. The easiest way is to start from the narrow end of the harbour, go up the path to the HáHá plateau, along the ridge above Herjólfsdalur, and down into the valley at the other end, at the base of Blátindur.

The climb is pretty steep at some points, but when you get on the top the view is outstanding. Remember not to go on windy days, it's extremely dangerous

Great place to be outdoors. Fantastic senary and cool nature. Good hiking trails on the mountains with spetacular view. 18 hole golf course where you play along and over the North Atlantic Ocean. Amacing birdlife during the summertime. Good camping site in the valley and small huts for rent.
