Heimaklettur may look a bit inacessible at first sight, but there are ladders and chains to help you up the path to the top. The views across the island are amazing in all directions. You'll see the vast lava fields coughed up by the Eldfell volcano in 1973, and a beautiful circle of cliffs around the harbour if you walk a little further down on the other side. I made a detailed description of this walk, including lots of pictures of what the track is like, and what you can expect along the way. You can find it if you search for 'The walking track to Heimaklettur - The Home Rock' on my blog Wilderness Coffee & Natural High (wildernesscoffee-naturalhigh). Interesting little detail: In the darker days of the year the locals like to light candles on Heimaklettur. Around Christmas and New Year they get totally out of control, with a multitude of candles all over the upper slopes.

Very nice trail. Short but you have to climb ladders. It can be dangerous in bad weather. We only had some fog during our climb. The view from the top is awesome.

Aufstieg etwas schwierig aber es lohnt sich. Fantastische Aussicht. Man sollte aber Schwindelfrei sein.

Nice but a little dangerous hike if it's raining. You have to climb some wooden ladders to get to the top.
