Stayed here whilst walking the Landmannalaugar trail in Aug-2016. Was only planning to pass through; however, after making friends with the warden I stayed (camping outside) for two nights.
What a fantastic place to visit, albeit briefly.
I intend to return again in Aug-2017 to be an "apprentice warden", and then hopefully warden on my own another year.
It is a very basic hut; however, it is warm, comfortable and has everything one could require. Don't arrive expecting modern conveniences, it is, after all on the top of a mountain between two glaciers.
There's a Vodafone 4G signal outside, handy for annoying friends back home with a Northern Lights photo.
If camping, when the wind blows it can be VERY windy, and can be VERY cold -- was -6C on my second night (late Aug).
Take extra guy line to tie to the rocks. The sand gets everywhere, so keep things in dry bags.
Selected photos from the visit, my tent.

Nice stop to have a rest for a while, but hut personal was not happy to see us pening the door to let the warm air go out and we took a new one way down to Skogar - very nice one.

What a unique experience! The hut is very remote and has limited water with a toilet that it really just a hole. The cabin has space for lots of travelers and can be kind of crowded. Also it is usually very warm inside due to all the people.

This huts remote location and short opening season prevents it from having too many facilities. Water can only be obtained by melting snow so it is in very short supply therefore there are no showers and only dry toilets. It has space for about 20 travellers in an open area and camping is available outside. When we called the warden was helpful but not very friendly. Sunrise was magical though!
