Trip was in June of 2017. Booked through CarRentalsInIceland and was sent to City Car Rental. Way too expensive for what you get. Our SUV was a good 6 years old, had over 100k miles on it, half the windows didn't roll down, the radio barely worked, headlights were very dim, inside was dirty and paid almost $700 USD for the week.
Don't rent here.

Midnight pick up, smiley employees and nice car with good price. Was careful on choosing car and had no problems. They give old cheap cars and good new cars with a fair price.

Cheap but horrible!!

Yes they are cheapbut thats it.
An old car can still be fine - no problem with this. But their cars are in no good condition anymore. I rented a SUV for going to the mountain roads and the car broke in the middle of nowhere for no reason ( no damage or something like this). They need hours just to deal with it and send a replacement car. And this took hours and hours again. I had to wait literally almost one day!
Sometimes something on a car can broke, so far so good. But how they were dealing with it, was inacceptable. Furthermore the car had several other failures, e.g. the ventilation, the rear windshild wiper and heating or the really bad tires. Even the (I have to admit much better and newer) replacement car had worn out tires. I had on a perfect paved road during medium rain allready aqua planning . So not really safe
But if you recieve your car, these are partly things you cannot detect within minutes to complain. (And even if you dowould you deny the car in the middle of the night and can not start your holiday??)
Afterwards there was no excuse, no reaction to several Emails, etc.
At least the pick-up to and from the airport worked.

So, Summary: Neglected cars, security related defects ,worst service. If you need a really cheap car you might take a look. But take a really close look. And just plan on bad experiences if something happens.

This is 3. time using C.C. Car Rental and as before Good service and NO problem and last bat not least Good price. You jest have to know what kind of Land You are coming to drive in. If You do ,, this is the Car Rentals Price vice for shore.

I don't recommend this car rental at all. Cars in dangerously bad condition and extremely bad customer service.

The car we initially rented had several problems (including the horn, a few lights and the hand brake not working) which they did not tell us, we only discovered these while checking the car ourselves. When we complained about it and told them that we couldn't drive off with a car in such bad state, the guy didn't think they were problems at all and complained about how picky we were. After hours of checking the car and arguing with them they finally hooked us up with a different car, which was not at all like the one we initially rented.
The car we drove off with was extremely old and cost us a fortune because of how much gas it needed. During the next days we constantly called them to see if the car we initially rented got repaired yet, to swap it with the one we had to use in the meanwhile. Most of the time nobody even answered the phone and when they did they didn't give us any information whatsoever. After calling every 20min for a few hours at a time they finally told us we could get the car. This time everything worked thankfully, but tht whole shebang cost us about two days. Two days less of expieriencing Iceland. Not to speak of all the hassle and the bad mood we were in because nothing seemed to work out. Seriously, save your money, your time and your sanity and use another car rental.

No help at airport return. No one there. No answer on phone. 6 am. No one anywhere. Not on any number. Not even the emergency number. Nothing. Had to find a taxi, not easy. Cost an additional $50. Do NOT use them.

Long story short, you pay less than others but make sure you're tires are not bald before heading out. When driving around the island you will likely be driving on lots of stone. We had our tire explode because they gave us tires that were nearly bald on the inside(not visible) part of the tires, right after getting off of snaefellsjokul mt. they replaced our car promptly in the middle of the night. It's cheaper here because they fix their own older cars and send them off. Good service as long as you check the tires before you go.

I do not reccomend this rental agency. It is a scheme. We've been trying to resolve our issue by European Consumer Center, but they do not answer emails nor pick up the phone. We also know for a fact that we are not the only injured party - there were at least a few other complaints about this company to the ECC. Pay a bit more and just keep your good memories from Iceland because it is not worth it (we lost about 2500 Euros because of them)

Not recommended at all. It is impossible to find worse service and worse cars.

When we booked with City Car Rental we already knew that the cars were old, but we couldn’t imagine that they would also be dirty and they would break, twice.

Our first car broke two days after having picked it up. We called several times to the breakdown emergency service, but nobody answered. Finally, we contacted with them and they told us that we had to pay 2.500€, and then, they would send a replacement (they returned this money 7 days later, because it wasn’t our fault but a mechanical problem, due to wrong maintenance).

We received the replacement 9 hours later. It broke the next day (it run out of battery). It was Sunday and the only solution of City Car Rental was to wait until the following morning. Next morning, in the garage, we surprisingly discovered that the car had other problems (ex. one liter less of oil).

So, definitively, they don’t carry on any maintenance, and if you have any problem, they won’t give you any proper solution.

Sometimes, cheap means expensive.

We rented a car with them for three days to visit around Iceland. We made the reservation only two days prior and there was absolutely no problem with it. They had the most competitive rates available at the moment and the car we got was in very good condition. They even upgraded the car we initially booked. Our overall experience was very good and I would deal with them anytime again.

The most awful rental of cars I've used. They do not respond to letters, and if they answer, then with a delay of a week. We got the car with a huge mileage, more than 190.000km. On it was a lot of scratches and dents, the trunk door did not hold and hit me on the head. Seat belts were periodically unfastened during driving. Huge fuel consumption!!! And.what is most terrible - as I discovered later, the parking brake did not work !!! I left the car parked but the parking brake didn't work and vehicle rolled onto my girl !!! The tires were winter and there were no spikes on them. As a result, the whole trip I was afraid for my life. I do not understand how they have not been closed yet! Strictly do not recommend using their services!

I will change this review if we get a reimbursement and proper service. Until then, I will tell you to refrain from booking a car with this company - unless you are desperate and need to save every penny.

The car we got, like in other reviews stated, was dirty (had stains, no vacuum cleaning was done before) and smelled funky. So we spent half a day and a serious amount of money on cleaning it.
If you rent out old cars, you should at least try and make them look nice on the inside and keep them in shape. This company doesn't care about that though.

It had broken front lights, which we noticed too late (so check EVERYTHING first, if you can't find a better car rental) and we needed to go to a garage and fix it - which is certainly not our duty as customers who still pay hundreds of Euros.

There is something weird going on with the car and it uses up too much fuel, we took in fact pictures to prove those circumstances.

We talked to a supervisor, but I don't think he honestly cared. We just got a standard email so far and are waiting for a response from the administration. I will not give up until we get a reimbursement for the amount of stress we had to go through after picking up the car.

There is a 30% increase of tourism each year in Iceland, and I honestly think, while there are still decent people, the amount of companies that try to rip you off with no honest customer service is only going to increase. (I'm just mentioning Blue Lagoon at this point as well). It's really a shame and put a bit of a bad aftertaste to our visit so far. As much as I like the country, I think there are too many tourists now for it's own good.

Other than the plane ticket, everything in Iceland is incredibly expensive. It was great to find a rental company with such good prices for really good cars (Dacia Duster) and drop off and pick up right on time. Friendly staff too.

I have once used car rental service offered by CityCar Rental and that was quite to my need and liking. Well, what surprised me was their drop off and pick up facility, which was quite unlike of others in this market. And, the way they arranged me a comfortable vehicle and in an extremely short span of time is worth thousands of praise. I thank them for being extremely quick and concerned about my essentials.

We rented a car from this company for a week long trip in Iceland. They were fairly priced and included extra insurance compared to the competitors. They were fast to reply to questions over email. When we arrived at the Keflavik location our reserved car was unavailable so they bumped us up to a more expensive model (Hyundai i30) free of charge. The car was from 2011 so it was in very good shape and drove well. The only minor issue was that the windshield wipers were sometimes not very effective (I cleaned them occasionally and it made it better). On our second day we woke up to find that the battery had died in the car. Luckily we were still in Reykjavik and the company sent someone extremely quickly to take a look. They jumped the car within the hour for free and we were good to go for the rest of the trip. All of our interactions with staff showed that they were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this rental company to others traveling in Iceland. Thanks for helping to make our trip unforgettable!
