An amazing place to go. If you visit Iceland you should go here.
Visited the Blue Lagoon on my multi-city layover in Iceland. It was an amazing experience. It's better than I thought it was going to be! Once you've confirmed your bookings and arrive at the resort, wristbands with a chip are given to you which allows you to pay for food and drink while in the lagoon. Let me stress on this part. Expensive! Expensive!! Expensive but worth it.
It took a while to get in due to queues. Really clever locker systems. A big complex with great facilities. The blue lagoon itself is a big area.
Aside from the mucky gross water and rude staff. Prices different for different people booking a few minutes apart. Not worth it unless you are easy to waste money.
We went on a Friday at 7p.
The four of us had a meal at the restaurant, w/ complimentary sparkling wine, and we all shared appetizers.
The food was all very quality!
Yes, it was expensive but compared to how expensive Reykjavik is, this restaurant was actually quite reasonable for how good the food was.
The hot springs we're gorgeous and I highly recommend grabbing a drink, soaking in the bluest hot water, and watching the snowfall.
Super tourist and extremely expensive! We couldn’t believe when we saw that there were hundreds of towels of all the guests put on a few spots, what a big mess. The blue lagoon should address this problem
I suppose the comfortable ticket, due to you can have a tower and have any one of drink at the bar, I have the apple cider, it’s really great experience to have a drink in the hot bath, and relax in the blue lagoon, also I tried two kinds of mask, it’s interesting and good for skin~~~but you have to care for your locker sensor on your hand band, it’s really easily to lose it, the band is really loose to lose it.
I visited here some years ago, totally loved it and would like to go back again
Tourist trap. I felt like I was at the airport terminal with all of the controls, departures and arrivals. At least at the airport I'm allowed to enjoy my own lunch. I was shooed for nibbling at a leftover sandwich in the outside cafe area. The most effective muscle relaxation I got was from the sauna; Unfortunately the blue lagoon itself wasn't warm enough for a deep soak. The rest area is located on the mezzanine above the cafe and is therefore loud and metallic. There are only a handful of lawn chairs with no reclining back support which occasionally tip back unsuspected, startling the peace. This place has very little in the way of creating intimacy. However it is clean and that is always appreciated.
The lagoon is a man-made lagoon which is fed by the water output of the nearby geothermal power plant Svartsengi and is renewed every two days. Superheated water is vented from the ground near a lava flow and used to run turbines that generate electricity. After going through the turbines, the steam and hot water passes through a heat exchanger to provide heat for a municipal water heating system. Then the water is fed into the lagoon.
Because of its mineral concentration, water cannot be recycled and must be disposed of in the nearby landscape, a permeable lava field that varies in thickness from 50 cm (20 in) to 1 m (3.3 ft). The silicate minerals is the primary cause of that water's milky blue shade. After the minerals have formed a deposit, the water reinfiltrates the ground, but the deposit renders it impermeable over time, hence the necessity for the plant to continuously dig new ponds in the nearby lava field.
Want to get a good and funny intro, search for Bad Dalai Lama video on Blue Lagoon on YouTube. My kids didn't want to go after seeing that video.
If you enjoy spas a lot and like to pampered, as well as if you have time to allow yourself to relax (no kids), you might enjoy this a lot. Me, not so much.
Amazing place for turists. The real blue lagoon is outside, in the nature!
Es un lugar muy turístico, pero que vale la pena para terminar el viaje a Islandia.
