WARNING - misleading photos here: The posted photos of the black sand and basalt columns are of Reynisfjara beach near Vik! Do not make the walk to this beach hoping for columns! There are no basalt columns here! This walk is only for the plane wreck! You will get the black sand WITHOUT the columns only if you ever make it here.

Most popular beach in Iceland. Probably because its really amazing. With huge bassalt rocks behind and huge waves. In wimdy weather quite dangerous place.
Amazing black sand, that go for miles! There is a US airplane that crashed near the beach and is about 50 minute walk from the closed park spot. The black sand is beautiful and amazing to play with! Amazing scenery and is the same spot from GoT!!!
It’s one of the most favorite places in earth, something unique and spectacular! The beach is full of black sand and beautiful black rocks, don’t tell the president of Iceland, I brought 4 pieces of rock back to Cambodia for souvenir from Iceland! The wind & the wave was too strong watch up, do not stay close to water or else you might end up drowning in the ocean, no chance of coming back.
This is the famous black beach of Vik, beautiful direct on the ocean.
Volcanic beach completely black, unique.
we went in January, it was raining and the sky was very covered, also because you only have 4 hours of daylight ,so you could not appreciate the fantastic colors of the beach.
stop required.
It’s a beautiful scene. Watch out for the waves. They sneak up on you.
Beware, the walk is a few miles from the parking lot! The sea waves are also quite powerful so it is advised not to get too close to the ocean. Never seen a beach so different than the black sand beach. It felt like I was walking on another planet. Would highly recommend this on your list. A couple of hours by car from Reykjavík. Be prepared to walk!
Beautiful nature, but the prices are at skyhigh..
All beaches here are black sand (crush volcanic rock) but this is the one generally called the black sand beach - watch out for deadly sneaker waves but do enjoy the views
Beautiful beach. Breathtaking views
