  Good food and nice atmosphere. May need to book ahead at the weekend we were lucky to get a table for two on a Sunday afternoon although the Birr air show was on near by.

  Horrible food. This place has tons of reviews where it won all kinds of 5 star reviews 20 years ago. Apparently it's not won anything in the last decade. We spent two weeks in Ireland this was hands-down the worst meal we compared all other meals to. Go somewhere else!

  Intimate atmosphere. Good wholesome food at reasonable prices. Have eaten there twice and standards still high. Recommended.

  It's a beautiful pub and restaurant . its established for years and the standards in both the pub and restaurant have been very high . The food is fab and the menu is superb. It has a unique athmosphere and its a pleasure at all times to visit the thatch . A must if your anywhere near Birr .

  We walked in for dinner after arriving from the States earlier that day. Jet-lagged and starving we were asked if we had reservations. The owner sensed we had none and on a very lively Thursday night made sure to find us a table. Both the meal and the service were over the top. Definitely satisfying and worth it.

  I'm pretty easy going but this is the worst meal I have had in Ireland in about 20 years.
  
  To start the bar staff were rude.
  
  I ordered a Chicken Caesar salad, what I received was some chicken and lettuce (and tomatoes??) the dressing tastes like plain mayonnaise, there were no croutons, no cheese.
  My main was supposed to be prawns in filo pasty. They tasted like they came from Aldi (which is fine at home not in a restaurant)
  
  My wife ordered a Thai green curry, and received just a plain curry, but, the chicken was burnt and the sauce had so much salt in it she couldn't eat it.
  
  Would recommend avoiding this spot

  A delightful setting. The restaurant has a varied menu which is delicious. Service is superb and very personable staff. Thumbs up for The Thatch
