Favourite bar in Dublin. Great value, stays open late, get a great atmosphere and TVs and live music depending on what you want from an evening. No complaints.

We stayed at the hotel for a short (36-hour) trip in Dublin. Anthony at the front desk was extremely helpful and gave us great suggestions for where to eat and hear live music. We took all of his suggestions and were not disappointed. If you're the type of traveler who needs a lot of amenities and plush accommodations, I suggest finding a different hotel. We are the type of travelers that try to stay out of a hotel as much as possible. We like to hike around town, eat out, and explore cities. The Portobello is great for sleeping but isn't the type of place for people who want to hang out in their room. The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to many attractions. Other reviews mention the noise---we didn't have any issues during our stay. It was normal city-noise from our perspective.

Great staff and food. First floor rooms are noisy as they are over the bar. Music does end at 2:30 though. Noise is okay for night-owls but not great for families. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

My review refers to the bar rather than the hotel. Incredible value (€4) pints of beer in a bar with nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Live music at a nice level; you can still converse, or get closer to the music and focus on that. Great location too right on the canal and on multiple bus routes.

GREAT LOCATION!!!! Walking distance to City Centre but far enough away to be very "local". Staff is super friendly, but the rooms are very different than what was represented online. Old bones, new touches but no major overhaul in many years. This hotel has potential to be really charming. If you are on the quay-facing side, beware of noise at night from the bar, which has some of the cheapest drinks around.

The location of this hotel is great, with such a short walk to the rest of the city. The good weather meant we could make use of the walk along the water right outside of the door.

The room was okay, the lack of AC meant that the room got very hot, and the noise outside meant that we could not leave the window open all night - as is with most cities.

The room was clean but seemed quite dated, along with the rest of the building.

The bar downstairs was nice! You can't go wrong with €4 pints!

They were laying new carpet when I stayed and did everything to make sure I could get in with comfort. The staff were helpful and the room ok. The hotel is dated but comfortable. Irish breakfast freshly cooked. Beds clean and fully working bathroom.
