Was a brilliant drive up, grounds could have been a bit more tidy, lovely old buildings yet quite modern inside. Welcomes were brilliant, thought the room was not ready when we arrived had to wait 10 - 20 minutes and the room was finished in about 7 minutes. Food was nice but either too warm or too cold. Over all I would stay here again but I wouldn't be that exited

Fantastic experience. Very friendly and courteous staff. Rooms are luxurious and spacious. Restaurant offers fantastic food and the breakfast is to die for, bring your appetite with you. Hotel was very busy when I visited but I found it possibly the quietest hotel I have ever stayed in, had a fantastic night's sleep.

The BEST "hotel" stay ever! Ok, to be fair, I booked the wrong room type, and got a free upgrade for MY mistakethe the Vice Presidential Suite! And she didn't even tell us she did that, we just walk into the suite and our eyes almost popped out of our head. What a stay!! In one of the actual castle rooms: separate entry door to the suite room and bath. Fireplace (that we took full advantage of with a wonderful bottle of Irish whiskey), canopy bed, claw-foot tub, separate shower, view of the groundsit was the perfect night, only wish we could have stayed longer!

A great experience. Room is very spacious with a very comfy bed you really sink into. Bathroom was very nicely finished with underfloor heating being a real luxury. Breakfast was great with everything you would expect and more. Would definitely stay again.

When it's a 5 star hotel you expect the facilities to be top quality (which they really are!) But the most special part of my trip was how outstandingly helpful, friendly and approachable the staff all are - in the hotel, in the restaurant at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar, in the spa, EVERYWHERE! Loved my stay and when my bank balance recovers from the 5 star life I lived all weekend, I'll be back!

Beautiful place with lovely art work all around the grounds. The staff where friendly and the whole place felt comfortable and welcoming. We had a lovely lunch of fish and chips, the lemon sauce on the plate was an amazing addition. Family and pet friendly. I look forward to returning.

Gorgeous setting and wonderful and friendly staff. Beautiful rooms and comfortable beds. Definitely would recommend and will be staying again. Only complaint would be that we only had the time to stay the one night!!!

Just popped in for some bar food, which was amazing (have the Guinness Burger!). Friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. There was an order mix-up but it was correctly very quickly and handled professionally. Desserts we ordered were among the finest we've ever tasted. Price very reasonable. If you're in the area, treat yourself!

Really nice place, good food aswell. Only problem is that it is quite remote and my room had A LOT of noise from workers outside the window and parties at night.

The initial impression of the hotel is positive, beautiful setting and lovely restored frontage. The entrance and grand staircase certainly give you the feeling of luxury.

The staff are the hotels best asset; polite, friendly and engaging. The food was very good and service excellent.

What lets this so called 5* hotel down is the tired and worn rooms. The rooms are very large and look impressive on entering but things like:
    -Badly stained mattress
    -Broken toilet roll holder
    -Dust on the carpet
    -Dust on the headboard
    -Lipstick on the "clean" sheets
    -Worn lampshades etc

Really don't justify 5* rating or prices - I wouldn't expect this from a B&B , why then a 5* hotel. The response from management was bland "sorry that shouldn't have happen" !

Spoke to other guests and they had a similar experiences, it seems there has been a lack of investment in keeping this hotels 5* standards.

I would have rated it 1star but the staff did make a big difference and on balance I give it a 3. Well short of a 5* experience
