I found my gem in Ireland. Love this hotel. I have stayed in several hotels all over Ireland and this has to be on the top of my list from quality of rooms to the staff. High compliments to management and staff. This will definitely be a must to visit during my trips to Ireland. I cannot wait to return for my next stay.

Our stay at Hotel Meyrick was a big disappointment. I don't ever leave reviews for hotels, but I do often read them when researching travel. My boyfriend and I were on a 9 day trip around Ireland and Galway was our last stop before heading back to Dublin to fly back to the states. I had read great things about Hotel Meyrick on travel blogs and websites so we decided for the end of our trip to treat ourselves to the hotel. Now I completely understand that many of these amazing reviews were in suites and I did not book a suite, I booked a standard room, and I expected a standard room, not a suite. However, when booking at a 4-star hotel, regardless of the type of room, I still expect a 4-star quality room that I am paying for over other hotels. This stay felt like a series of unfortunate events from the beginning. When we arrived, they told us the parking for the hotel was full. Going to our room, I noticed our room was in a different wing from the rest of the hotel, going up a back elevator to what looked more like dingy apartments than hotel rooms. Our hotel room was barren and nothing like what the photos for our "standard room" looked like online. The bed was two mattresses pushed together. When we arrived in our room, it was over 80 degrees and when we called down to ask how to turn down the heat, they said due to the structure of the hotel and location of the room, there was nothing they could do.. and brought us up a small desk fan. Later that evening after I showered, my adapter for my blow dryer stopped working so I asked the hotel if I could borrow one, they said I only could if I put down 10 euros cash for a hold. I told them they have our credit card for the room and asked if she could hold it on the room, she said no and suggested I walk up the street in the rain at 7pm and buy an adapter myself. My boyfriend then called a bit upset and said this was ridiculous and they finally brought it up. 20 minutes later, I stepped on a bent thump tack that was on our floor. By this point my boyfriend had had it and called to speak to a manager, and was connected to Fred. On our way to dinner we stopped in the lobby and spoke to Fred, who I handed the tack to. Fred was apologetic and offered us dessert for our troubles. Quite frankly I didn't want dessert, I just wanted a decent hotel experience. Later that night when we came back from dinner I told my boyfriend I wanted to go up through the "Main" elevator. That was when it all became clear. THAT is where the 4-star hotel is. I don't know at what price point you get to stay in the hotel you think you paid for, but it is truly beautiful, and what they advertise on their website is not at all what you think you're going to get in a standard room. It was quite honestly two different hotels. My boyfriend was really irked at this point and went back to speak to Fred. Fred then went on to tell him that he was tired of hearing from us, that my boyfriend was rude and had cursed on the phone to the receptionist (he definitely did not, and would never), that I made up a lie that reception had told me to walk up the street for the adapter (seriously?), and that we were disingenuous people. He also said they can't post pictures of all the rooms, so it's not his fault the photo of our room isn't what we got. It didn't even look like the same hotel! I've never experienced any sort of hospitality like this, or lack thereof. I understand some things are always going to be out of the hotel's control, but the quality of the room and the hospitality we experienced is nothing like what is advertised online and I have never been more disappointed in a stay. If you are staying in one of the suites I have no doubt your room will be magnificent, but anything short of a suite, do not waste your money or your expectations. There are plenty of other nice hotels in Galway. Needless to say, Galway was the destination I was most excited about in our trip and I could not wait to leave.

The Mayrick is a lovely hotel and has the hallmark of a grand, luxurious traditional hotel. Unfortunately we weren't able to try the spa facilities but the room was lovely. Size wise it was big and packed with things you would expect is such a hotel. Food was great to as was the service. My only gripe would be that we stayed 2 nights on the weekend of storm Ophelia and had asked for an extended check out period so we find out whether our flight would still be flying the same day. Unfortunately, the hotel were only willing to move the check out from 12 to 1 which didn't really help and made us take the decision to drive back to Dublin at 1pm when the storm was reaching its peak. A little more empathy and care would have been appreciated. But the hotel is lovely and we enjoyed our stay there.

Wonderful experience. We stayed in a suite overlooking ayre square the staff were excellent. Worth paying the extra for the suite. Bar is nice and food is also good. Close to everything and a great spa.

Terrific hotel. We are in a great room, with a king bed and a lovely sitting area. We have not yet had breakfast here, but look forward to it tomorrow morning. We are also booked in for afternoon tea tomorrow!

Great location on Eyre square in the middle of Galway. It is a bit noisy, as the main bus transfers are quite near. Also, there is no AC, which would be OK usually, but it was warm when we were there so we had to open a window. Because this is in the city center, it was quite noisy with the window open.

I will say the location is very nice, however, I'm unsure if it was simply the location of OUR room but it was a very unpleasant stay.
We were on the 3rd floor facing the back and there was never any quiet. Without any A/C the windows were open at all times to keep it somewhat cool in the room but the lot behind the hotel is always busy and loud with people and buses at all hours.
Along with that noise the hallways noise was unbearable. The doors SLAM shut throughout the night and early morning and you can hear the cleaning persons and other customers as they chat in the hallway as if they are actually inside of your room.
I wish my stay was as pleasant as everyone else. If they simply stopped the doors from slamming shut that would be helpful to a good nights rest which I did not get while staying at the Meyrick.response / report this review -

The Hotel Meyrick is a lovely old hotel within steps of the train station and Eyre park. We had a junior suite which was very spacious and well appointed with a sitting room, dining area, sleeping area and large bathroom. The service was attentive, and none of our requests went unmet. You have to try the seafood chowder---it's not to be missed. The hot tub is nice and I had a decent massage. There were nice touches in the bathroom, for example, complimentary lavender bath salts and heated towel bars. I loved the antique furnishings and didn't find it dated---maybe a little worn in spots, but that added to its authenticity.

We decided to give the gaslight bar a try a couple of weeks ago because it's a fairly inviting place. When we got there it wasent busy so we sat down and waited and waited . There were staff there alright but they were just walking around. Eventually we had to get up and ask to be served. The meal was just mediocre and the" music". was far too loud for the middle of the day. I remember a couple of years ago having a top class lunch in the Meyrick hotel itself with lovely music playing in the background. This hotel was considered Class and a treat to go to in the past and indeed the I still love the hotel but I certainly wouldn't go to the gaslight again. Mc. Donald's would have been more satisfying.

We are from Colorado, US. Our stay here in Jan was fabulous. The Meyrick is in a perfect spot. Walking distance from everything. Rooms are nice. Water pressure is good and hot. Orla was so nice and helpful. Can't wait to come back. Check out Maxwell's for breakfast ☺

Grand Old Hotel charming with a really friendly, accommodating staff. Good Irish buffet breakfast, comfy rooms. Right at Eyre Square, easy walk to all the best pubs and restaurants. The train station is right around back of the hotel, so it's easy to catch one down to your next destination. We always stay here when in Galway.
