  Best to go to the Abbey early in the morning or late on a summer's evening when you may well be able to enjoy the silence on your own.

  I was driving pass Bective Abbey when it caught my eye. Its a very large structure, in really decent condition. You can get a real feel of what the building must have been like when in use. It takes a while to take it all in and you will need wine angle and micro lens if you want to do the workmanship justice with your photos. There is a river that runs just beside the ruins but you cant access it due to electric wires running along the fence, its a pity because there is also a lovely bridge and if you could get down to it then you would get a cracking photo. The abbey has a nice car park, its well worth a visit and take your time, and take it all in. Enjoy

  I love coming across these gems on the road. We came across bective abbey on the way to the hill of Tara and boy was it worth stopping off. This place has some incredible architecture fully in tact and a giant door way you don't see to often. Anyone in meath visiting the common sites should really fit this into their agenda. Even 10 minutes is enough to leave you with fantastic memories of this ancient ruin.

  I so enjoyed this abbey. Perhaps in part because when I arrived I was alone, and it was quiet and beautiful - until a bus of adolescent tourists arrived making a hullabaloo. Still, this is a large and fairly intact abbey ruin, with some sections dating back to the 12th century. Look for the pillar in the locked room (Chapter House), and the arch to the west. A good place to quieten down and connect with the divine.

  One of the most famous sites on the island. A photographers dream. Hours could be spent here taking in the wonders that it has to offer.

  We hadnt planned on stopping here but were driving by and decided to have a look. Place was desserted so it was a little bit creepy but as the sun was setting, it was stunning
