Was not impressed with this bar, the bar staff (Waldorf and Startler) were both obnoxious and rude would be more suited employed as sanitary workers serving the good people of Budapest
A typical London-style sports pub. It has more of the traditional Hungarian service, which means you will have to ask for a second round and wait for the bill, but it's a nice place to watch games and have a beer.
Shocking excuse for a pub. Firstly, table service for drinks?! Should have set the alarm bells ringing Went to watch the footy, but the tv picture was like a stream on an old modem connection, despite them having sky sports advertisements in the window. Weird note inside the bill explaining how in Hungary 10% tip is expected, but 30-40% is common with great service (boll*cks). And that no tip is considered very rude. After paying they didn’t bring back change! And when I asked for it they seemed surprised! Absolute liability, luckily the gooners were playing so bad picture didn’t bother me too much.
Great service, wide range of drinks and tasty food. The staff is very friendly and speaks excellent English.
Was greeted by a very aggressive doorman who asked 'Can I help you?' when I entered in the bar in a wierdly confontational tone. I left after 10 minutes waiting to get served as none of the four barmen showed the slightest interest, even though no one else was waiting to get served. Do yourself a favour and give this bar a miss - absolutely terrible!
Pricey to local standards, maybe due to the proximity to the river, serving "pints" of 40clfor like 1090HUF+. They tell you to tip between 5-15% 'according to service' and that it's extremely rude not to tip anything. It was the only place in Budapest with this kind of direct written requestAlso the wry, condescending smile the waiter gave after our order didn't really encourage to tip. My hand smelled like puke after sitting in their sofa just for the duration of a football match. The positive thing is that they show football/rugby and it's quite a cosy place.
DO NOT GO HERE - HORRIBLE SERVICE.
Unfortunately you can't give zero stars.
Group of guys from Wales very well behaved just wanting to watch the football, have a few soft drinks and chill before out flight was way too much to ask for the guys working there. The service we received (and i am sure others in the pub) was a disgrace! They provided on the football so 1 star may be deservedBut every language in the world can provide a drink with a smile and not a disgusting attitude. Gave money for drinks and was due 700HUT change, when i wasn't provided with the change I politely asked for my change I got a reply like i was asking for something alot worse.
If you want to go for a sports bar head ANYWHERE else. We seen loads of people turned away at 2pm because there was 5 tables reservedThose reserved tables were for 5pm!! They sat there empty as they turned away people.Disgrace. DO NOT GO THERE.
Without a shadow of a doubt the most unwelcoming pub I've ever been to. Small grey haired Hungarian man working behind the bar unbelievably rude, muttering things under his breath and acting as though taking drink orders is a chore. One of his co workers who was slightly more welcoming almost seemed embarrassed by his behavior. He ended up kicking us out as he claimed the table we were on was reserved. We were extremely well behaved and only wanted a pub to watch the football and drink soft drinks before our flight home. Stay well away from this 'British' pub.
This 'British Pub' isn't even British owned and the staff aren't British either - At least have British staff working there to create/complete the atmosphere of it being a British Pub. In this pub the Hungarian staff had attitude as if they don't want to work in a "pub for foreigners". Why get a job in Budapest's tourist area if you don't like serving "foreigners".
When me and my Hungarian girlfriend visited this bar last year we went to the bar and I ordered the drinks whereby the female bar tender (Hungarian) told me to sit down and wait for the drinks. So I went outside to a table to wait for the drinks because it was the middle of summer and baking hot (too hot inside the pub). Outside had a slight breeze. Being English I thought nothing of this and thought the bar tender would bring the drinks outside.
As I was leaving the bar to go outside (the girlfriend was going to use the toilet) the bar tender turned to the manager sitting in a corner and said "where's that stupid f***ing English man going? I told him to sit down". I didn't know this at the time, but their mistake was they thought my girlfriend was English because we were talking in English. Anyway, my girlfriend quickly gave the bar tender a mouthful in Hungarian!!!
My girlfriend said afterwards that she was surprised this "foreigner" thing was happening (she witnessed it when we went to restaurant's too, where they thought she was "the English man's English girlfriend").
What added insult to injury was that the drinks were okay, but too expensive. I paid 900 Ft per pint when down the road at the local Dreher bar (Nr Margaret Island/Parliament) I was getting one pint for 350 Ft. A massive difference. Hence why I would recommend that Dreher bar instead.
i will go along with most peoples views that its a great place for a decent pint and sports tv thrown in too, good location and waiters were friendly :)
