Upachaya!! Where to start about this incredible place

First and foremost, Barbara is the most gracious, accommodating and patient owner/manager you could ask for. The customer service provided at Upachaya is fantastic. All of her recommendations for activities on the island were exactly as described and over delivered.

Upachaya is a jungle experience, in the best way. If you are looking for privacy and taste of the "real" Roatan, then this place is for you. My wife and I spent five nights at Upachaya that included delicious fresh fish, wonderful breakfasts, plenty of Salva Vida and of course kayaking, yoga and snorkeling.

I would highly recommend staying at Upachaya.

    Thanks again Barb!!

Visited Upachaya during June 2014. Upachaya is that that it says that it is. Upachaya is a wonderful excursion.

After getting off cruise ship, there is an uphill walk to a van with a courteous driver who is bilingual. Then we were driven through village parts of Roatan to a jungle area called Upachaya. We were given an explanation of the island culture and history. Snorkling equipment was provided. The staff were curteous and cared if we were safe and secure. We kayaked through pristine waters with Mangrove trees to a large cove. The underwater beauty was breath-taking. I was too out of shape for this trip. Kayaking back was difficult. I recommend spending cruise days getting physically prepared for Upachaya if you are out of shape. Thank goodness I had started working out on the ship. After returning, we were fed a delicious vegetarian meal. We had a choice of sodas or beer. Water was also available. We were given a tour through the hotel style rooms. They were spotlessly clean and well decorated island style. I hope to return to Upachaya one day and stay for a while. Some families had elementary aged children who seemed to enjoy the snorkling.

Tips- I do not recommend the shore excursion for people who are not physically fit, have mobility problems (because of the many stairs) or very young children/infants.

Wear lots of sunscreen. Four months later, my skin is still deeply burned.

Take bug spray. This is the jungle and there are mosquitoes that have a weird sting.

    Wear good walking shoes.

Upachaya is an excellent retreat setting. Thank you Upachaya for a pleasant experience.

Many thanks to Upachaya for an educational and healing experience.

Totally serene and a beautiful place to relax. The tropical scenery is colorful and energizing. I had a great stay at the resort hosted by the owner Barb. I also got to do some yoga, kayaking, and snorkeling. Wonderful location and would highly recommend it, particularly if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of your regular routine.

My family and I did a cruise last year that made a stop at Roatan.
We booked our snorkelling trip at the Upachaya and had a great stay.
Barbara the owner was awesome and took good care of everyone and shared a lot of neat info about the island and her place.
The guides on the snorkelling trip were great and they took the time for every snorkeller and showed us some neat stuff..thanks guys.
    Thanks,
    Peter and Joan
