The museum has two wings: east wing and west wing. The former consists of the nucleus of the museum's planetarium, which has an egg-shaped dome structure. Beneath it are the Stanley Ho Space Theatre, the Hall of Space Science, workshops and offices. The west wing houses the Hall of Astronomy, the Lecture Hall, a gift shop and offices.

The planetarium's egg-shaped dome covers more than 8,000 square metres, making it a famous landmark in Hong Kong. It was the first local planetarium for the popularisation of astronomy and space science.[2]

There is also a mockup of the nose and cockpit section of the Space Shuttle orbiter.

It was recently renovated. The exhibits are all updated to reflect recent advancement of astronomy.
Most of the exhibits are interactive. But they are surprisingly easy to be broken - almost half were in service at the time I visited.
The contents can be quite advanced that would interest not just children but also adults.

This is a fun inexpensive museum with great little interactive displays, minigames and photo opportunities. You get to learn quite a lot in simple but effective blocks. However it loses a star because unfortunately a lot of the displays seem to be in various states of disrepair. When I went it seems it was a special free day for the week which was nice but it isn't that expensive to get in. There is also a side theatre show for an added cost.

Lots of exciting exhibitions and shows on air, definitely worth a visit. It's a good place for family day to broaden the horizons of parents and children but remember to keep your voice low during the shows, don't be a nuisance!

The place was awesome. The spherical done screen is used to project the film. However there in no too much of thrilling experience. Most part of the film was filled with conversation. My 5 year old son actually had a good sleep during the show.

Unfortunately it was getting refurnished so we didn't get to see much of the exhibition. But we watched the Aurora on the doom screen which was amazing. Very good quality. Very good price for this. I would recommend this.

The main exhibition area is still under renovation and is expected to be opened by March 2018. The space theatre is still operating and the shows are narrated in Cantonese. However, they do provide headphones for translated narration.

Could have been a nice place for chikdren to learn science but under staff kids just run around playing with all the science demo with no clue what science behind it well at least they enganged in science stuff

Don't waste your time and money here!!! The film is very old, and less than 50% of the film is about Aurora. Pathetically low resolution, you get much better films of aurora from youtube and vimeo, and for free. Plus the seat is very dirty. They don't change the head seat cover at all, so the whole time I was watching the film I could smell bad oily hair smell from the seat head cover. Never had such bad planetarium movie experience at all!!!

It was not really entertaining.

The Hong Kong Science Museum was first conceived by the Urban Council in 1976. In 1986, the council hired Hong Kong architecture firm Palmer and Turner to design the museum. It was built by Leighton Contractors (Asia) Limited.

Construction began in March 1988 and was completed in November 1990. The museum cost HK$340 million. It was officially opened by Governor David Wilson and Urban Council Chairman H.M.G. Forsgate on 18 April 1991.

The Hong Kong Science Museum (Chinese: 香港科學館) is a science-themed museum in Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon, Hong Kong, located next to the Hong Kong Museum of History.

This is the 2nd time I come to see this wonderful museum BUT it's CLOSED for renovations again. I am told that it will reopen in 2018. IMAX & 3D movies still running. Movies are great.

Decent. I feel like it wasn't much of a museum though, could have been the construction. However I did watch one of the movies in the dome and it wasn't that bad. Even have headphones for translating.

We took an expensive cab ride here with our two small children, because our toddler would have loved this place. Got there, stood in line for tickets, only to get to the window to find out they do not allow anyone into the theater below the age of 3. We asked if we could just go into museum, and we were told the museum was closed for renovations. Maybe they should have disclosed this info on their website.

On Wednesdays its free entry and so is on other days. You have to pay about 20 HKD for the show. Which happens on hourly bases. Best check the time and then come. When I visited, I had just misses the show. So had to wait 50 minutes

I'm a huge fan of science/space museums- the world needs more of them. This particular museum is not the best that I've seen, but is still pretty good. The omnimax shows are a great way to cool off during a hot Hong Kong afternoon.

Great syk theater shows. We had a chance to see Dark Universe, Journey to space 3D and Facts of Artic.

Great place. They have wireless headsets and an option to select your preferred language.
