We loved our stay here. The pool is amazing and the food is reasonably priced and of a good standard. The views are outstanding - you are missing out of you don’t come here!
Super nice place. Party every night, everyone's invited. Good food and plenty of drinks.
Rude, unfriendly staff. You are only allowed to stay if you give your passport to the (part volunteering) staff during your whole stay. They put your passport in a box without a lock or security in open air. In stead of looking for a solution to this security issue the staff kicks you out, even when it is raining and nighttime. Alternative hostels in Lanquin are cheaper and have better party vibes.
This place has some great views but I think all the hostels in the area are very similar. They have a great bar and restaurant. You can even volunteer to help out for food and lodging. Their pool looks nice but it was a little bit too cold for the weather. The sleeping situation is ok for being a hostel. The only drawback is that they tend to play really loud music late into the night. I stayed in the furthest unit and could still hear the music when I went to bed at midnight.
They have good resort experiences like tours of semuc and tubing and zip lining.
Cool hostel , yjmmy food , beautiful pool and views.
I had such high hopes for this hostel having heard so many good reviews. I think the hostel might be living of its reputation from a few years back. Very expensive. The cave tour they provided with I was very dissatisfied. Prices are very expensive in the hostel and no outside beer allowed in. All in nothing like what I expected, nothing special at all. Really not sure why this hostel has such a good reputation. No WiFi after 8pm was annoying.
The only thing that is nice in that hostel is the atmosphere in the restaurant, and there is a pool (not relevant in rain season)
The private room we took was ok, but with a lot of bugs and spiders
They shut down the wifi at 8 pm and they stop making food at 9pm which is critical because you have no place
to go from there.
We ran away from there in the nex
Great hostel, very clean and the staff are very welcoming. Only down side is that you aren't allowed outside food or drink as the hostel has its own restaurant and bar however the food is delicious and the drinks are reasonably priced.
Experience was pretty good. Tends to attract a party crowd. If you like that then definitely go, but if you want a quiet hostel, book elsewhere. They have a beautiful pool that overlooks the valley. And the foods great. Rooms and washrooms are clean too.
You'd better not want to sleep. Great if you want to party and do all their activities, because there isn't anything else much to do. Oh lots of animals and bugs in the rooms. Zero security. Not even enough lockers for the beds in a dorm.
2 stars for coke-head bar staff and loud music until the early hours. Understand its a party hostel but you guys need to let your guests sleep. Great views and pool cant make up for a bad vibe.
Horrible service. The girl there was very racist. Food sucks, you can get a better one in Oasis
I am not a picky traveler, I've stayed at many hostels in Central America over the years, but I definitely do not recommend this hostel to anyone except privileged white travelers who want to be kept away from a more "local" experience, love to rage party all day every day, and are okay with potentially getting really sick.
The location is itself really beautiful, and the pool and hot tub are nice, but other than that the vibe is not for me at all. I see here nonlocals exploiting native land for monetary gain without making much contribution to the local community. With this space they could be offering SO MUCH to the local community, but I saw none of that. What a great space for educational opportunities or providing incentive for locals to continue their craft Even the local women in the kitchen seemed unhappy with their jobs.
During my stay with my sweetie we ate a lot of the food from the kitchen at the hostel because it was really inconvenient to get into town. We drank only pure water while there, but my boyfriend got really sick with food poisoning still. When I brought it up to the manager he said a "bug was going around". It was not a bug going around. I get sick easily and my boyfriend has "bowels of steel" as I like to say. 9 or 10 other people were sick while we were there, all who ate food from the kitchen. I think it was the unrefrigerated mayonnaise. I hate mayo so I didn't touch the stuff and felt totally normal while my sweetie ate globs and was ravaged for days. The other sick people I got in touch with also ate it. I hope this place chooses better food handling practices in the future for the good of their guests
Over all I give this place a good rating. It is everything is has promoted itself to be which I appreciate. Located on the ridge the views are amazing in all directions for sunrise, daytime relaxing, and sun set! The establishment is really cool also. The pool is and hot tub are great additions which just adds perfectly to the ambiance. However, for me something doesn't quite fit - my subjective option; the prices are not over top given the location and I can understand additional operational costs involved, however some aspects really failed to meet expectation. The food offering was basic and offered nothing in the way of flavour or excitement. The pizzas look good but again disappointing. The curry by far the best option but chicken overcooked. Q105 for dorm beds is okay given the facilities, but feel that unless you are there for the party atmosphere or really make ure of the pool there are better options. Personally I think Zephyr is fine but for my next (3rd) visit to Lanquin I'd try somewhere else.
Wonderful views, a lovely pool and hot tub, and a raucous bar. However, there were several downsides. Bedbugs were ignored by the generally disinterested staff, 8 of 10 people in my group had terrible food poisoning from the food here, and I couldn't help but feel the place was set up to rinse backpackers of every quetzal. Perhaps we visited during an unfortunate 3 day period but overall we left Lanquin gutted that Zephyr could have been so much more. Read their responses to reviews on Trip advisor for a laugh (and an example of how to not be professional). I stayed in El Retiro 8 years ago and they knew how to treat visitors with warmth and kindness. X
Amazing view, food, and touristic adventures. Wi-Fi is fro.7am-7pm, and is slow. It is good for regular searches. There is a pool table and board games to play with. They have a pool and Jacuzzi. Stay 3 nights and get the fourth night free. Trust me, that is an amazing deal!!! They also have 2 German shepherds and some cats roaming around that are super friendly. They provide towels but not soap, shampoo, or conditioner. Bring your own!!! The shower hoes from super hot to freezing very quickly. Tale quick showers. It is primarily a very young couple crowd. Meaning there is loud music and a lot of drunk young couples in the evening. The main downside is that it is very tough to get there. An 8 hour drive from Antigua with 2 stops! It takes 2 full days of traveling to get to and from here. I think it was worth it. But I wish I had more time.
