Hike Acatenango with this hostel is just amazing, you can overlook the fire active volcano. They have different activities every night, quiz, beer pong, live music, really good vibes.

My husband and I did not stay here, but we did the overnight Acatenango hike through them. Do it! Tropicana's facilities before/after the hike were comfortable and lively. The breakfast (with free flowing coffee in the kitchen) was tasty and filling. The staff here was also very friendly and helpful.
This hike changed my life. Yes it got cold at night, and yes parts were difficult, but our guides were knowledgeable and experienced, and our group was tremendous.
The tents and sleeping bags were top-notch as well. Also note that these items were already at the campsite; we did not have to carry them.
We heard great stories of parties at the hostel, too. So if you like that, stay here! We chose a more relaxed but still very social vibe at El Hostal before and after our hike.

I liked it a lot! If you want to party it is great as there are a lot of people who do. But if you have to get up early it works as well, as they kick everyone out to the city at 10pm.

Great experience! The staff were incredibly friendly and fun to be around. Nights were very energetic. Definitely see why it's known as 'the' party hostel.

I stayed at Tropicana for one night, did the Acetanango Volcano hike through them, and spent at least a few of my evenings in Antigua at their bar.
Their volcano hike was completely amazing. The guides we had for our group of 16 (which I believe is the max group size) were completely fantastic, and we're happy enough to let me practice my Spanish with them at the top (they speak almost no English). There was one guide at the front to accommodate faster group members and one who trailed behind with the stragglers to ensure everyone found their way.
As far as Tropicana itself goes, I love the bar there. The staff and atmosphere is very friendly and they run events frequently in the evenings. Their roof terrace is pretty nice, too. As far as sleeping goes, it's a bit of a party hostel, so unless you're gonna stay up till the end you might be best sleeping elsewhere and just visiting the bar.

Pretty good hostel with a small pool and a rooftop terrace. Very central location in Antigua and they serve family style dinners. Games every night, friendly and helpful staff. Wi-Fi didn't work too well but that was fixed later. If you need any tours they can help you set that up

Nice party hostel not too far from the main parts of town. The receptionists can book shuttles and activities from the front desk. The pool is large enough for several people and great on hot days. There is a bar and they had a DJ the nights I stayed there that played music until 10pm. The bunk beds are affordable, but not the best if you need to be up before the sun rises. My bunk was connected to 11 others. When someone would climb into or out of bed, I found that I woke easily. Having a bunk on the ground may help with that.

Good party place but they are constructing the roof and start early in the morning. Maybe starting a bit later can help the terrible noise.

Other than that the staff were very friendly and helpful and their acatenango trip was absolutely great.

Worst place where i've been, i ve booked the volcain tour with them, i felt very sick after 2 hours, and i asked to delete the tour, but they said any refound was possibile.
There are loud music just close to your room.
I ve travelled for 2 months and this was the worst place.

Really good place. Party hostel but the beds are comfy, its quiet and the party moves out of the hostel pretty early doors. Staff were also super helpful

Definitely a party hostel. Great bunks in dorm rooms with personal outlet and lockers. Curtains around the bunks add some privacy. Great food at the bar served in big portions and helpful friendly staff.

Great atmosphere, everyone including the staff is down for a laugh. In the evenings they all come out and party with you and tell you where's best to go that night. Has a great movie room too if you're looking to chill for a night. Triple decker beds aren't my favourite but what can you do when a place is so popular? Appreciated the charging sockets in the personal lockers so you can charge phones without worry.

Young, party crowd. Comfortable beds with three tiers but curtains. Unfortunately Loud couples above, below and through the large dorms makes sleeping uncomfortable. Helpful staff and awesome views though

As far as hostels go its hard to fault this place. It ticks a lot of boxes. Its well run, has a good vibe and a nice balance of party and chill. Onsite bar and restaurant serves good food and theres something social happening in it every night. Its closes at 10pm though so people can sleep! Well located and good value. Beds are comfy but dorms are quite packed but what else are you going to expect?
