I’ve traveled in over 35 countries and that was one of the worst hotels I have ever been to. I went there to eat lunch. Food was mediocre (most plain grilled cheese I’ve ever seen) and overpriced. It was about noon. I told the 2-3 ladies working in the restaurant/reception that I had a ticket for the 2:30pm collectivo (Lancha) boat going to Livingston and that I would need a ride back a bit before then to the public dock from which the boat leaves. She told me "no worries” and to go back at the reception at around 2:15pm, which I did. The lady told me to wait at the hotel, that she had called the boat guy and that the boat would come to pick me up directly at Hacienda Tijax at 2:30pm. I thought that sounded a bit odd and random but figured she knew better than me. I waited. Waited. Waited it was now 2:45-2:50pm. She told me the boat had forgotten to come and that I needed to jump in their private lancha so their boat guy could chase down the collectivo/lancha! I was really confused by then. The entire thing was unprofessional. We drove super fast on the water and chased down a boat that turned out to be a private charter going to Livingston, not the 2:30pm collectivo. Again, truly bizarre. We went back to the hotel. It was now past 3pm. The lady (she spoke English, I think she’s a manager) told me the boat had not left yet and that it would come pick me up there (at Hacienda Tijax). The entire thing made no sense - the boat was scheduled for 2:30pm! I kept waiting. At 3:15pm, the lady then told me I needed to go to the public dock and sent me out with her boat guy. We arrived there a few minutes later. I asked where was the 2:30pm collectivo/lancha to Livingston. The guys there looked confused and told me it had left at 2:30pm. I tried calling back Hacienda Tijax, but from that point the lady hung up on me every time I tried calling. WOW. Terribly disorganized and awful customer service. Don’t waste your time and your money on that place.
Reply to the manager’s comment: I spent over 3h st your hotel/restaurant and dealt with at least 4-5 different employees - including an English-speaking manager - so I am in a good position to provide a review of the kind of place and service you provide. And I am not “venting” about the collectivo, I am providing a truthful and relevant depiction of the events that took place at your hotel/restaurant that made me miss my collectivo due to your staff’s incompetence. Also, I notice that your reply does not address the fact that your staff dumped me at the public pier and then hung up on me every time I tried calling time once I realized the collectivo had left at 2:30pm, as scheduled and as I had told them. Very nice private & peaceful accommodation over the water. Excellent bar and restaurant. Huge pool with plenty of space to relax.

I think is the closest thing to a real Jungle we have on the whole Rio Dulce Basin. Very well preserved and unusual combination with an actual Hacienda & Marina Well trained staff, simply Beautiful Bungalows.

Hermoso hotel dentro de la selva. Tiene acceso a todos los sitios de río dulce y lado de Izabal por medio de botes que uno puede ordenar en recepción. Las habitaciones son lindas por fuera y románticas. Recomiendo probar el ceviche, muy bueno! El interior de las habitaciones estándar no son tan acogedoras. Baño muy abierto por ejemplo, así que si viajas con alguien, que ese alguien sea de mucha confianza. La calle para llegar al hotel desde la entrada principal es de terrasería, así que carros bajos tendrán dificultad (nos tocó bajar a una persona para que el carro dejara de topar abajo)

Great Location with a fantastic view over the river! Small and simple cabanas and simple but tasty food. And good coffee. I loved the boattrip to Livingston where you can see a lot of the beautiful nature.

Amazing jungle experience! Hacienda Tijax offers the comfort of air-conditioned lodges and cocktails-on-tap in the blissful pool, while still immersing you in the lush forest and wildlife of Rio Dulce. Staff are friendly and happy to organise local trips and activities.

We came here as part of a tour and were forced to stay in the "bungalows" as they appear to be called. They have no AC, huge cracks under the door and in the walls allowing for massive spiders the size of your hand to enter the room. Battle the heat with an archaic fan and enjoy. These are not shown in pictures naturally and the shared bathroom consists of ONE combined toilet and shower for a large portion of the grounds. The jungle is lovely as are the staff but this type of housing is not suitable and should be displayed as such. Be careful if you are not booking your own room directly.

Really nice place to stay some days at the lake.
Do the monkey watching with the kayak in the morning and the Hike through the dungel to the tower.
