I stayed at the Barcelo Purto Plata resort.

It wasn't very good at all, we had flooding in our room, followed by the bathroom ceiling collapsing, there were ants in the bathroom on the counter every morning. The buildings are just built very poorly, and it's only 1 of 3 resorts open within Playa Dorada, there used to be 8-10 resorts, but they're all closing down and moving to Punta Cana because of how much nicer it is down there. The salesmen on the beach are very annoying and do not give up, it is full of local's as well.

On the positive side, the beach is nice, the pool isn't bad (minus the empty cups from the bar) the food (at La Fontana Pizza) is good, the buffet wasn't very good at all. The workers are very nice, it is right next to the big mall where you can haggle all your souvenir's down to low Dominican Peso's which is even less USD.

I wouldn't stay here again though, no more Dominican Republic for me.
