Have been here many times. For the bang for the buck, good food, great atmosphere, the BEST STAFF, THE MOST FUN!

We were spoiled at the iberostar resort last year so this year it was a little disappointing to see the lack of service here at the riu bambu. The food was great, the pools and outside areas were amazing and our housekeeper was on point. The only two negatives that we were turned off by were the lack of service and the overwhelming number of locals that were let in Friday through Monday. The entire place was jammed packed and a huge turn off for us. It was talked about by all the guest that was pushed aside to service the locals. I would not recommend staying here Friday through Monday night..
We plan to go back to iberostar for next year.

The hotel service is not in agreement with its 5 stars classification. There are almost no food options between the main meals ( for example after 22:00 or between 16:00 and 18:00 ), such as Ice Creams, chocolate, more snacks. The only options are nachos, hot dogs and Burgers. There is no elevator in the whole resort, and some of the staff members are not very polite with the customers, some of them seemed a little arrogant to me.

Nice place, great beach. Food is ok, too much fried food and sugary drinks. They've got WiFi even on the beach!

Recently renovated and they did a fantastic job. The rooms are nice and clean. Each room has it's own mini bar with bottles of vodka, whiskey and two kinds of rum. Soft drinks and cans of beer (4) are stocked every other day.

The staff are awesome. Be nice and tip them. They sang me happy birthday at the steak house and made my night extra special. The bday cake was fantastic. Ate the whole thing for breakfast (2 days of breakfast).

There's a wide selection of food at the buffets and lots of it. Downside to buffets though is that that the food isn't always hot. They have 5 restaurants don't have reservations, but if you don't come when they first open (6pm) you may have to wait a bit. The restaurants are: Mexican, Asian, Spanish, a steakhouse and Kulinarium. I didn't try the Mexican. The Spanish (buffet) we weren't too impressed with, so we walked out to try something else. The Asian also a buffet, some things were good - but the sushi was terrible. The stars of the restaurants for me, were the steakhouse and Kulinarium. We went to both twice and the food was as good as one of our Toronto restaurants. Go at 6, if you have to get a buzzer it may take over an hour to eat.

The grounds are beautiful and lush with greenery. No palapas on the beach but plenty of palm trees for some shade. We brought a sun tent for extra covering and I recommend doing that for anyone who doesn't want to bake in the sun. (or with kids.)

Punta Cana can be quite windy and in my 2 times visiting I've never had still, calm water. The ocean is wavy, there's red and yellow flags a lot and no lifeguards so be responsible. The water is a lot of fun for those of us who like to play in the waves.

There's 5 pools including a relaxing pool, 2 general family pools, and 2 pool bars that may require you to sanitize yourself after. But the pool bars are fun if that's what you like. You get to meet people from everywhere. The bartenders are awesome, friendly and will dance while making your drinks. It looks like they're having a lot of fun too.

The only disappointment I had were the drinks. The wines weren't drinkable, awful. The cocktails were way too sweet and needed to be balanced with something to cut that corn syrup sweetness. Note that I am a bit of a cocktail snob, so you may love them.

I'm not much of a show person, but what I did see at night looked good. People looked like they were enjoying the shows. A lot of activities day and night, which again I don't partake in. The staff walk around sometimes in costumes and enjoy making you laugh:)

Five stars because I did love staying at the Riu and had a fantastic time. I was generally there for the beach and sun, so it's fine that a few things weren't stellar.

Very nice hotel with huge area and lot if rooms, but you don't feel it crowdy, as people just spread around. Very good food, few swimming pools, aqua park close by. Strongly recommend for family with kids!

The place it's self was good, but the organisation was poor. We where are group of 5 adults with a couple. Two people got their room which was fine and the three of us where placed in a two person room. After some complaining we where moved to another room. Upon getting to this room we found that it was one large room with a pull out bed for one person and a king sized bed for two. Aside from our shower door falling off and smashing in the room and not being replaced it was a good holiday. Food was ok, and the staff where friendly.

This is a family friendly resort, the staff was fun and friendly, the rooms were average and the bed was a little on the hard side. The beach area was very nice and shaded as there are many palm trees along the beach. There was wi-fi through out the resort as well. Room service never arrived to my room when I called to ask for water bottles. I ended up going to the front desk to get them myself. The cleaning staff on the other hand would fold my towels and shape them into different birds and flowers whenever I needed my room refreshed.

Ok.this was our First visit to a Riu line of hotels with my wife and daughter. The place was recently remodeled, about 10 days ago to be exact, food is somewhat ok, room had its issues for a "recently remodeled" room. Bathroom door didn't open/close as intended, no working lock on bathroom either, phone didn't work, air conditioner was never cold, more like an ok temperature. There were construction workers all day continuing the remodeling. In terms of recreation facilities, pools close waaay to early in my opinion, 6pm. Night activities are pretty much the same night after night, fun, but repetitive, there is certainly room for improvement here.
Speaking of personnel, most are friendly including the ones that take care of the kids, you might find yourself with one that needs to work on their customer WOW experience but nothing major.
In shortI really believe that it will become a great place to come once renovation truly finishes and IF they take reviews seriously.
I would still recommend it to family or friends.

Too many nationalities there who kept themselves to themselves so did not find the place very friendly. Food was OK which would have been better if it was served a bit hotter. Entertainment was boring at times with dancers prancing about with fancy costumes. The whole layout of the accommodation blocks look like a council estate in the tropics and you need to keep the curtains closed has you are a exposed to all as they walk past. Would I go there again? No way, ain't worth the money and getting there.
