Best hotel and casino next to the hotel they have a place call mr. Liquor
Staff is great and the rooms are quite quaint!
Had a bad experience in January 2018. The desk worker (Emanuel) try hustling for $25. I booked a junior suite dor 2 people and he was didnt want to let my friend upstairs. He tried charging him $25 to go back to the room he was staying at. Another friend of mines try visiting me in my room which i gave authorization so he could go upstairs for 5 minutes cause we was going to eat in a restaurant he denied my friend to go upstairs. He was charging him $25. He was telling my friend to pay Everything else was great. The room, the view , the food. Only bad experience was with Emanuel . Wont ever stay there if hes working. I complained to the ladies when i was checking out and they agreed with me. They said he was wrong.
A very nice place with a sweet staff. I would definitely return for another stay.
Good service, the place is comfortable, but it smell like a old stuff
The most Traditional Hotel in Santiago also a Historic Place close to the Monument Area. During the Years I know the Hotel Matum there have been many changes . The Pool area last Time I have been there still looked really crappy, this since Years. Some Years ago they renovadet the gran Salon an Event place finaly the way it has to be. The Rooms are huge and need some better attention not really clean work everywhere. Wifi is good in some Rooms. many Clients feel disturbed by the noise People make all around the Hotel . There is a real loud Club (for fancy People) and a Discothec .The Front gets the Noise from the People coming from the casino. I did know the Hotel Matum as a Place with some errors but everytime friendly Employees . Not anymore , Employee seemed stressed and not really willing to do his work at the Front Desk .Finally is to say that it is sad real sad to see that a hotel like the matum serves his breakfast in a gangway.
Friendly staff clean rooms they are rustic that's the decor this hotel has a long history and a very nice pool for a dip in the day.. Seen a lot of bad reviews by a lot of whinny people if you want the Hilton go pay 300 dollars a night.. It has hot water comfortable beds and nice bathrooms the tv is small in the economic rooms but for the price is a decent place.. There are some street walkers at night but you get that lots of places
Unbelievable how you can rent a hotel room for $100 per night with a night club in the same building. The night club disco located 40 feet in front of your balcony made sleeping impossible. From 11pm - 7am the disco starts. The noise level goes from very loud to unbelievable loud when the door opens every 30 seconds to let people in and out. Some drunks tried to clime up our balcony railing. I switched the light on to scare them away. I guess we where lucky that the police came at that moment to check on the Night Club. They did this ones a hour. I was thinking it is Sunday night and they will close early. That was the risen why we did not leave.
l definitely don't recommend this place. It is pricey and not in good shape. It is impossible to sleep if your room is located on the right side of the reception. It is very dangers as the traffic from the Night Club can clime up easily the balconies. We where lucky that the police is checking on the night club every hour.
As being a family that runs a hotel in Cabarete, this type of service is very unacceptable in every way.
Bx3 good pretty low price
Be wary of this place! They're very petty. If you eat any of the concessions in the hotel room's fridge be prepared to pay an exorbitant fee.
The afternoon Receptionist was very helpful and restful, the room l was giving was very old the bathroom was rusty air conditioner didn't work the room was sooooo hot and humid. we couldn't sleep all night because of the heat we kept showering with cold water. the night receptionist was rude didn't care that l was being calm about the situation and kept telling me that the air conditioner of the hotel is working, and that the technician get there in the morning. the pool is dirty smells bad. the only thing good there was the free parking and that is so close to the monument defenitely El Matum needs to upgrade and improve the hygine. l definitely don't recommend this place is price and not in good shape
very expencive but is good place
I would not recommend staying at this hotel. We were arriving from our flights excited for vacation only to find they gave two of our rooms away after we had reservations from several months before hand and brought out confirmation receipts they continued to tell us they didn't have any rooms available for us- (had 1- but told us we weren't allowed to stay in there because there were too many of us) as we watched other locals arrive and end up with a room with no problem. They continued to tell us we could not sit in the lobby as we were looking for somewhere else to go, by this time it was the middle of the night.. lots of tears and lots of confusion- horrible experience.
The one room they allowed us to look at (even though we apparently weren't allowed to stay in it)- was dirty, run down, bugs on the floor and the disco was INSANELY loud. Not one to complain, but don't want someone to experience what we went through.
Historical hotel in the Monumental Area of Santiago. If you want a certified tour guide service, please contact me.
Good place to stay if you're in the city
Wow. To be treated this way due to the fact we are white. We are local people living in cabarete and needed a hotel close to Cabral hospital as we are helping with the deliveries of new born babies once a month for three days. So we figured we give mature hotel our business as they are down the road. On Tuesday morning my wife called the hotel to make a reservation and confirm pricing and details. When we arrived Elvis the door man was very wonderful, but it went down hill from there. As pre our phone call earlier Tuesday morning we stated there would be three adults in our party and two very small children ages 3 and almost one. Do to this we requested a room over the south side of the Lobby and away from the loud bass of the casino and night club. We were also quoted a price of $70 usd all taxes in including breakfast. During checking we re affirmed the price that was quoted to us, but were charged a much higher amount. Not thinking much of it, Elvis the most wonderful employee here helped us with our bags and showed us around the hotel. After a long days travel from our home in cabarete we needed to feed the children and ourselfs. Elvis was once again very helpful as he spoke very good English regarding the area and where to eat. During this conversation the young very rude lady at the front desk asked we pay more money ( at this time $10usd more per night), as she argued the price charged was not enough, mean while we were charged more then the quoted amount as per our phone conversation. Then during Tuesday night when we returned from dinner the same rude front desk clerk accused us of having a small dog in our babies backpack and check our room and back pack for this dog, mean while it was one of our sons stuffed toys. On to Wednesday morning when my wife tried to leave for here shift at the hospital the same front desk clerk was on duty and argued with the rude lady as now she wanted $50 more then the $30 requested the night before. The same clerk cancelled our room keys so they would not work to return to our room.
We then fast forward to now, when we returned to the hotel from dinner and different front desk clerk stated we most pay $70 more for our room. My wife then started to speak with him and he was very nice, but not the absent manager that would only speak on the phone . We have all ready paid for our room till Friday morning and this woman manger tried to kick was out of our room if we would not pay. In the end my wife paid the nice front desk man on duty a total of 1395 dop or $30 usd. As agreed with the absent manager on the phone.
What is going on at this hotel, we are in room 216 our roof leaks water over the toilet, t.v does not work, window to the outside does not lock, and when requested to be placed in the rooms on the right side of the lobby sure to the night club noise. We were placed directly over the casino.
As being a family that owns hotels and restaurants, this type of service is very Unexpectable in every way.we also were planning on staying at matum
once a month for three nights bring others from the north coast with us to rent rooms as much needed help at the Cabral hospital, but we will take our business else where, as they think they can swindle you at of more money once they have received payment from you.
This hotel is currently under going a upgrade, but no upgrade can produce revenue when their staff thinks they can swindle more money out of expats that live on the island. I do wish the investment mangers of this hotel contacts us, as being hotel owners we hate seeing other owners being hold hostage and losing revenue from bad employees.
It was very noisy because there was a night club and a casino attached to the hotel which made sleeping difficult. From 11pm - 7am the disco starts. No wifi in bedrooms. The breakfast menu is very Dominican doesn't have a variation. The only thing I really liked was the pool.
