I stayed at the Excellence Punta Cana in February to celebrate a wedding with friends. This is my first all-inclusive, and I'm not certain all-inclusive resorts are for me. My biggest complaint of all was the ocean being closed every day we were there due to 'waves.' If you are looking for a resort that involves time in the ocean, you may want to look elsewhere. We actually walked off the resort beach, past the aggressive small shops flanking the place, to go swim in the ocean.

For those of you thinking about it, the upgrade to Excellence Club has me stuck at a coin-flip in terms of being worth the cost. The biggest advantage is access to the nice restaurant for breakfast. The only request I made of the club concierge was to stock my mini-fridge with beer that was not Presidente. They said they couldn't do anything about it, but other rooms had different beer.

The service was great. The people were nice. The drinks were plentiful, but very sugary.

The food was decent, but none of it was specifically memorable. There was a lot of it? Once you had been to a few of the places to eat it was easy to get something you enjoyed.

Loved the location and the beauty of this resort. Paid to upgrade for our honeymoon and have private beach, pool and other bonus amenities. Overall we had a blast- only thing bad was we had quite a few little behind the scene issues. They sent our breakfast in bed ordered to the wrong room, and forgot we paid extra until we mentioned it. They did go over an beyond to make up for it. We loved the place and people. It could just be more organized and the room service definitely needed better cleaning/restocking. We will return because of the memories we made there. Can't wait.

This was me and my husband's first time to the Dominican Republic/Caribbean and first time going to an all inclusive resort. 4/30/18 to 5/7/18. We would absolutely go back to this resort and recommend it to anyone. A few points:
-We paid for the Excellence Club but to be honest we could have gone without it, the private beach and pool are not needed because the regular beach and pool are so big
-We never saw a mosquito/bug/biting insect
-The websites says they have a no tipping policy but staff gladly accept tips and most guests do tip
-The staff are very welcoming, hardworking, and professional. Almost everyone we talked to spoke English but to different degrees, it was not hard to communicate
-We paid for one excursion through Seasons which was expensive and wasn't quite what they described, yet we had a good time
-Our room was the Junior Suite and it was just the right size for the two of us
-The beach is very clean, in the morning the staff can be seen cleaning up the seaweed and keeping it nice
-When we went it was very windy and the waves were huge, often we were not allowed to swim
-The pools are very big (long, narrow, windy) which means you get your own space
-The food is fantastic at the restaurants, we loved the variety, reservations were not needed
-Staff are always walking around offering to get drinks, even on the beach
-We recommend bringing your own tumblers for drinks that way you can get more at once and keep it cold
-We requested the free honeymoon package which came with balloons, a pretty towel/flowers set up on the bed, a sash on our door, breakfast in bed (which was great), and a romantic dinner (which just meant they made reservations at a restaurant but nothing else about it was different). They did not ask for proof of our recent marriage
-There are often activities going on on the beach or in the pool during the day (games and such) but they are easy to avoid if you are not in to that
-There is a game/sport area for mini-golf, archery, tennis, pool, ect. however not once did we see anyone in this area which was a little strange
-There are gift shops on the resort property which are fine, just expensive. Beware of the gift shops off the resort property. There are string of shops down the beach to the left and they are assertive/borderline aggressive to get you to buy
-We used the transportation service through the hotel (Seasons) and it was expensive but they pick you up in a really nice SUV and they are very professional. If we were to go back, we would look up other transportation options that are a little cheaper such as local taxis/transportation services
-We went to the spa for an aqua wellness spa treatment, it came with the Excellence Club package but we would not have paid for this, it was a weird experience where you go to different rooms/shows/tubs with varying temperatures of water
-This is a laid back resort, age range varies- its really a mix. You wouldn't feel out of place if you like to drink or out of place if you are looking to sit back and read a book

All in all, it was an amazing resort because it is so big and so well maintained. The flowers and trees are perfectly maintained, the buildings are amazing in design and decoration, and the resort is very safe and very clean. One thing we liked is that to both sides of the resort are stands of palm tress, not other resorts.

So, admittedly this is my first all-inclusive, but I researched A LOT of resorts to try and find a luxury, adult-only, all-inclusive. My requirements: modern/newer, nice beach, great food, good extra-curricular activities (mostly fitness or sports-related) and good service. This place IS quite pretty. It’s sprawling so despite its size it doesn’t feel like a huge resort. My biggest gripes are the food and the activities. Neither are truly great - a 5.5/10 at best.

My husband and I and another couple went to Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana for a week in March of 2018. We upgraded to the Excellence Club for an ocean front room. The resort is very large, the rooms beautiful and very spacious, and the balcony off the room was fabulous. The service everywhere was outstanding, and the staff were all very friendly, and the food was excellent. I didn't think breakfast was that great, but we had very good dinners at several of the restaurants. The beach was amazing. The only reason I could not give this a 5 star review is because of the terrible odor in the rooms. As beautiful as the resort is, I would not go back because of this. The odor was overpowering. Clothes we didn't wear still had to be laundered when we returned home because the smell of the room was in the clothes.

My husband and I stayed at the Excellence Punta Cana in December and had the most amazing experience! We upgraded to the Excellence Club when we arrived and they upgraded our room to a double deck swim up suite with ocean view. The staff are absolutely incredible! Everyone is so nice and willing to help if you need anything at all. I LOVE the layout of the resort. It's spread out so it feels like you are secluded and not around a ton of people. The bartenders at the swim up bar were the best and always making us laugh! We loved the resort so much that we already booked our next trip at the Excellence Oyster Bay in Jamaica!

great experience! it was our 1st time there. hospitality was amazing. the resort was very clean. I would check the weather to see what time of the year is the least rainy. we talked to other people there and it sounds like excellence was exactly what we needed. adults only and it was an older crowd. if you want to party hard go to another resort.

Must do the swim up suite. Excellent experience all away around. We arrived January 17 2018. Very nice rooms, clean well kept. We enjoyed every part of the vacation. The staff was great. Men must wear pants to dinner that was an over sight so my husband only had one pair. Perfect vacation!

Stayed at the Excellence for about a week and had a great time. Lots to see and do in Punta Cana, even if you don't leave the resort. Went for a walk in the front garden with my girlfriend and it felt like a completely different place with ponds and gardens and exotic animals (like four flamingos and iguanas exotic).

There was a plethora of restaurants and bars to go to, live theatre every day and just a great night time vibe.

The staff are friendly, the rooms are great and for the money, it feels bigger than it lets on. Highly recommend.

Our stay last week at Excellence Punta Cana was nothing but EXCELLENCE. The layout of the resort is phenomenal. The staff is WONDERFUL and very friendly and helpful. The poolside entertainment staff is full of energy and they encourage participation. It was amazing to see how much effort was expended to keep the place so clean.
We were a bit disappointed with a few of the evening shows. The quality of the shows was not as professional as we had experienced on a cruise.
Th food was excellent although we were a bit disappointed with the New Years Eve meal.
Overall, the vacation was wonderful. When tears fill your eyes when you say goodbye to the staff you know how special and talented and devoted they are.

Such a wonderful and memorable place! Too many good things to say about this place and the people! I had my wedding here and it was perfect! That was in 2016. We are already planning to go back in 2019!

Room was great, we stayed in the terrace suite with a private pool. That's about the only good thing I can say. Food was not great by any means. Even lobster was not something I would order twice. Apparently the place was shutting down after we left so there were wood boards around where they were already doing construction around the pool. The last two days were miserable as staff was packing in everything to prepare for closing!! The drinks were good, but service was in poor moral. Not pleasant to be around. One night room service was unavailable, I said no big deal and went to restaurant to get something to go back to room with with out success. No one would let me take food back to the room. This was a vacation that was all inclusive, excellence club level and everything. Was very limited. I went to shops which was in the resort to get a cigar and got ripped off, which I expect in another country but not in the resort. Spa was nice.

I do my best to keep an honest review above. Here is why we will never even consider here again. Our last night there, two employees barged in to our room! With out knocking, just had a key from somewhere! I was very upset. The next day we found that credit cards were stolen and $200 cash was stolen. When we checked our account over $17,000 was charged. I've been working on getting this resolved for over a month. My wife was terrified from our intruders at night time who immediately left after they saw us and I lost my mind cursing them out. Obviously they were going for second dibs on my wallet.

I reported it to the staff who put on a show and haven't heard anything from them. I doubt anything would happen since all the employees were probably out of work after this place shut down anyway.

So all in all pretty poor experience, the resort it self was beautiful but I can't say that there was anything spectacular to brag about.

If I could give them a negative star rating I would. Go at your own personal risk. Don't leave anyone alone with your drink. Watch out for the staff. This is not a safe place. My daughter and her husband were drugged. My daughter was told by the resort doctor that "she's seen worse". I have not rated anyone poorly until now and I've been leaving reviews for 5+ years. Typically I wont leave a bad review because I believe in second chances, but not this place. Stay far away. I blacked her eyes out for her privacy.

This resort is wonderful! The buildings and layout are beautiful. You really feel the tranquillo life there. The restaurants are fabulous and the chefs really are masters of many dishes. Highly recommend Chez Isabelle (WOW).
We had our wedding there and it was so simply, easy and stress free. The best part of the Excellence resort is the staff. We truly were blessed by them and made so many wonderful friends. They are so caring and loving! Our whole family feel in love with the people and the DR that week and are planning on going back next year!
Amazing experience, amazing food, amazing people

Fun place to go for relaxing, partying and weddings. Resort is nice and pretty in a relaxing atmosphere. Food was average, drinks were good. Very poor beer selection. The beach was pretty but water was too rough to swim. Very friendly and attentive staff.

We stayed here in 2015 and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed it so much we went back the first week of Jan. 2017. Our second trip could not have been anymore different than the first. From the minute we got there to the time it was time to leave it was very unimpressive. We were not greeted as returning guest. At check in, the guy left mid sentence to answer a phone call, came back and tried to get us to upgrade. Our toilet broke and AC broke at 11pm on our first night. We went to several restaurants that did not have items on the menu and they were all under staffed. The food quality was night and day compared to our first visit. We have no reason to go back here or try any of their other hotels.

This resort is expensive, but it's very nice if you just want to relax. It's a couples/honeymooners resort, so don't try to go by yourself. I also do not recommend going with friends. The service is great and the people are very friendly and nice. One thing that I would try to stay away from is the "Romantic Dinner" experience at the beach. It costs $200 ($170 if you're eligible for a 15% discount) and the food is horrible (meat was hard a a rock and the lobster tastes so bad - they didn't even bother to cook it with a garlic sauce). On the flipside, the scenery is out of this world - if you go at 6:30pm, you can watch the sunset at the beach. But it is not worth $200, mainly because of the food. Stay away from that.

Best week ever! Great characters there like Alexander the Great!

Only thing is that our jet tub didn't work the whole time which was disappointing.

Food, service, pools, restaurants, and everything else was amazing.

They try very hard to make you comfortable here. The bartenders and service staff are very efficient, you'll never want for anything.accomodations are nice, food though is just average. A lot of choices but the quality just isn't there. Typically all inclusive. Very small casino with a few table games too

If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the cheapest rates around

My husband, myself and another couple went here on vacation in November . We stayed a week and loved it. It's an all-inclusive adult only resort. They cater to you 24 hours a day. You have 7 restaurants to chose from to eat at or rooms service. All the food is excellent. There's 5 bars and 1 is a swim up bar. They have 2 pools and 2 hot tubs to enjoy also. We went on 2 excursions while we were there. Well worth the money. We got to see how the people live in the villages and the big cities. If I had to give any negative reviews it would be that it rained 2 days while we were there but we didn't let that stop us from having fun. Would highly recommend this place. We can't wait to go back next year!!

Great time. Entertainment with LG everyday poolside was great. Food and entertainment was top notch as well. Only downfall was the beds were super uncomfortable. Hard as a rock doesn't even explain it. Would still recommend this resort to anyone.
