Rated as a three-star, club Kawama resort will disappoint you if you expect three-star service in all aspects. Particularly in food category, I should probably rate them one-star or less! However, this resort is just by the beach, which is undoubtedly a priority when it comes to choosing hotels in Varadero.
The bank (money exchange) is literally on the resort, which makes life so easy! Make sure to stop by at the bank during regular business hours. Other times the hotel front desk will be the only option available 24 hours. Their exchange rates are usually not so good.
You will find representatives of travel agencies in the hotel lobby. They usually offer the cheapest options for local excursions. The resort has a center stage where they offer programs such as music concert, dance shows. 'Cubans can dance to any tune' - you will surely find out why they say it!response / report this review -

We enjoyed our stay here. It's not the Ritz Carleton so don't expect much. It's old and shows it's age but it still has character and lots of history.
The staff work hard and they are always fixing things to make your stay a bit better. The price is right!response / report this review -

Stop reading the negative reviews. This was an excellent place! Let me tell you something ladies and gentleman. I LOVE IT! There are a few cracks here and there as some of the buildings are very old. Some of it was built in 1930! Relax people! It adds to the beauty of it. ALSO the pools and entertainment areas are fabulous. The staff were very nice for the most part. (everyone has their bad days) It's not the fanciest place in Cuba. But it was wonderful and well worth double the price we paid! I will go back to this place as many times as they still let me in. LOVED IT!!!!! GO AND HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!

This resort is an average resort. I had good room service however my friends rooms were not clean. The resort food is absolutely horrible! Some of the staff were friendly and helpful. It is right on the Varadero beach so you can relax well on the beach.

This was my first trip. I was impressed with the friendly and helpful staff. Food was okay very different then what we're used to. I would def go to this resort again. Beaches are beautiful. The weather was fantastic. Tourist we met were all so wonderful and helpful.

Compared to the typical Cuban standard the hotel is not bad. The service is not great, but then agan not much worse than everywhere else in Cuba. The food is pretty much inedible, but again, Cuba. The rooms are fine and the beach is amazing.

This was our first trip to Kawama and indeed our last. Hotel was completely disgusting. Floors were sticky- toilet did no work- blood on walls- and looked as if nothing had been cleaned in a decade. Towels or sheets were never replaced - pillows were flat- bed was awful. Food was disgusting- a la carte was worse. I got food poisoning. Hard to find ice or toilet paper. Pool bar smelled of vomit. People were great - despite all of this- they are what helped us get through

Hotel is quite nice, it has good offer of various shops, a lot of swimming pools, bars and restaurants. It is practicaly on the beach so if you are enjoying the nice weather that is a beautiful thing. Staff is friendly and they also make good drinks. There is a good variety of food in the restaurant. Unfortunately, every time restaurant reeks of some old oil stench which lowers your appetite, and the staff in the restaurant insists that they bring you drinks and they often forget about it so you have to wait for coffee or juice until you finish your meal. Nothing was invested in the renovation of the complex after it was opened so it is quite run down. Cats and dogs which walk around your tables on the reception and in the restaurant are a nice touch if you prefer it.

Terrible room and brutal upkeep and general cleanliness. Food was terrible my girlfriend got food poisoning. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Don't not stay here. The beach I nice but its the same beach at other resorts.

Excelent place. Great people. Very quiet. Amazing beach. Perfect for couples. It has a bank a few meters from the hotel for money exchange.
I've been there twice and would return always. It is very close to stores or markets.

Amazing beach. There are many activities!!! Foods are fine. Bubble party is really fun. Dancing night and synchronized swimming performances are exciting!!! You can get beer and snacks anytime for free. Room is not really bad, but you should bring some mothquito spray.

the beach is amazing but the hotel is a let down. the location is good but the rooms are very dirty. the food is basic. The receptionists were very rude. You get what you pay for.

The room was basic which is not a problem, it was cleaned daily. The complex though was amazing the staff were very nice and pleasant. We will definitely be going back there, such a beautiful place to stay fir a vacation.

I love Kawama. 2nd time there at the start of May. Staff great! Ivan at the coffee bar is amazing! No complaints! Met a lot of great people from all over. Will be back in January! Can't wait!

1 🌟 is way too generous for this place. I was very disappointed with this resort. They gave us a room that smelled of mold. Dirty windows, walls you can see the mold on them. The bathroom was disgusting, grout was filthy, bathtub rusted. The fridge was falling apart from the rust. My bedspread had feces on it. To have a room change, I had to twist their arms. The beach was full of garbage, cigarette butts, etc. No music during the day. No activities. I read reviews about this place, some were good, some bad. People complain for nothing at times. I gave this place the benefit of the doubt but *WOW* 😫😫😫

Great holiday. The rooms 3* ( beds really comfortable, shower perfect, and the air-con was the best.and I normally hate air-con ). Beach and facilities 5*. Service and food 4*. Definitely return there.

When we first arrived we didn't much like the rooms. Although the pool, beach and entertainment were great made up for it. Food was very hit or miss. Drinks were great!

Cockroaches in our room (one very large). Food was not great to say the least. Beach was amazing!! Performances were also great. Our air conditioning broke more than once. And a lot of the time our shower was cold.

Had the best time of my life the people that work there went over and above for us when Air Canada lost my luggage. kudos to the security team they rock!!! This place is close to town and markets and has that old feel charm. The pool although turned everything yellow that was white and the pool went green when we left but all in all great place good people wonderful time .The catamaran tour which was fabulous. Jesus restaurant across the bridge I would highly recommend for a dinner it was delicious for extra pesos.the beach is beautiful just bring bug screen cause the sand fleas bite you good and the bugs 🐚This place was amazing had everything we needed!! I will definitely come back again! 👍👍👍 😘🍹 Viva Cuba 🇨🇺
