Now named Starfish Varadero; this place is charming, pretty, well-kept, always friendly staff any place you go. There's always music somewhere, any time of day, pina coladas are fresh and yummy. The food is innovative and never repeated. The beach is well-groomed and everything you could ask for; be sure to pay 20 cucs and snorkel provided by the hotel, its the coolest experience. You won't regret staying here.

Now called Starfish. This was our second visit and we were made to feel special with a steak and lobster dinner for returning guests. They have made many improvements in the past 2 years. We will come back to stay here. Great entertainment and kids club - perfect for families.

JANUARY 2018 Trip: Good food, good staff, good layout. Rooms are a bit worn out (except the newly renovated deluxe wing) housekeeping isn't great, probably lacks training. Beach is amazing, although dont expect perfect weather everyday. Not bad for a 3 star hotel (changed it name to Starfish Varadero in 2016).

I have no idea where all these people reviewing this resort we're staying but it obviously wasn't the starfish (previously agua azules). Anyone who claims to have had a good time, enjoyed the resort and food was obviously just there to get wasted at the bar. We we're supposed to stay here for 2 weeks and made our travel rep move us immediately. The front desk staff were less than pleasant. The room was an absolute dump, I have never stayed in such a dirty unkept place and I've stayed in hostels. Our bath towels we're moldy. There were no beach towels after the first day. The sheets were dirty and had dead bugs in them. The fridge looked disgusting and didn't work. There was no hot water. There was no ice at the bars. The food wasn't kept hot or cold. Half the people we met had bad stomachs. Everything is falling apart. They claim the bungalows are renovated but you'll have to pay to upgrade and even with a decent room I wouldn't say it's worth it. If you have ANY standards I strongly suggest you reconsider staying here.

The beach is beautiful.the wait staff is friendly. Management.well lets just say you BETTER bring your passport or they will make you drive back to Havana to get in. Also, hotel room.ehmy cousin found a couple frogs in her room. She doesnt like frogs. All in all, you pay what you get and we did not pay much for a night there

The staff are very friendly!! Clean rooms, easy access to the beach! Love varadero for their clean beaches!! Their wifi is only accessible at the lobby, so if you end up staying at one of the bungalows, you need to walk all the way to the main building for wifi. The shows are worth watching! Their dancers are so talented and the magic show was spectacular! When going cuba, dont expect the best food.

Better then I thought it would be. Brand new bed, good food, clean resort. The bungalows are 1br apartments minus a kitchen. Worth it to get a bungalow. Entertainment runs day and night everyday. Beach could be cleaned and a toilet could be added close to the beach found people use the beach instead of finding a toilet. The safe in the room is not free it cost me $25 Canadian for the week. Some facilities didn't work like the cooking utilities in the sports bar and there's only fountain pop avalible no pop or beer is ever put into the empty fridge in the room so bring Imodium your tummy will get really sick after 2 or 3 days. They dont realize visitors can't drink tgeir water. Also bring a container to drink out of they re-use random peoples cups other people have already used by wiping them with a towel. When I asked why they don't put pop in tge rooms the response from reception was "this is a 3 star" I found most of the staff were great but I also found half the staff would just stand around and talk with each other instead of helping people. I was very shocked to realize there's no one to help you with your baggage or help you find your room. I felt like I was going to fall over backwards lifting my 50 pound luggage up those stairs to room. A positive is when I took a shower I had hot water and great water pressure and a fully functional toilet. My ceiling was partially falling down so I used the clear packing tape I brought to leave there to tape it back up. I left a lot of items there for charity and some things I thought the maintenance staff might need. Also, There are no phones in the rooms so if you want to know anything you need to walk to reception when they are working. There's 2 tvs in the bungalows but the one in the bedroom only has cable tv. 2 maybe 3 English channels. I hope you like CNN. No clocks anywhere except in the lobby. The Italian a la cart is ok but everyone ends up eating at the buffet because nothing else is open.

Recently got back from this resort. Nothing but disappointment from the day we arrived. The rooms were VERY dirty and had such a bad odor! The shower head fell on us while in use, TWICE! We had to take the sheets off for them to remove the old ones and give us new ones and the phone in the room wasn't working. The door hinge popped off locking me in my own room with no working phone to call the front desk. The toilet was broken our whole stay (leaking water and having to manually flush) and staff wasn't very interested in resolving the issue - ANY of our issues! We will NOT be returning to this resort ever again and are advising all our family and friends not to go to this resort.

Recently been here with my girlfriend for three nights. We really enjoyed our stay here. Despite all the comments the food was fine(unless you're really picky) and the staff is very friendly. Definitely worth your money! Would go again.

Management is very bad! We booked on the internet for 350 U.S Dollars, but they told us that is actually CUC but shown in wrong currency on that website and charged us extra for that! Worst customer service ever. Because of that we didn't have any cash left, so they told bellboy to show us our rooms which is located at the far end of the hotel, because we had no cash left bellboy left us 1 floor up in the lobby by telling us how to find our room in hurried 5 seconds and leaves us there. We tried to find our 30 minutes and couldn't find it. Worst first experience ever.

Awesome staff, everybody was helpful always. special shout out to Andrea, Yamira, Juan Carlos, and Duaneski and Baltazar for excellent service. The beach front is very relaxing and clean. I gave 4 stars because some rooms and buildings need a bit of paint retouch, some upgrade to bathrooms might help too. For a quick vacation you cant go wrong staying here. Its not the Hilton but they do their best. Overall it was a very good stay for me and my family and for sure we will come back!

The beach is amazing. Our room and bathroom were clean. The food as alright. The hotel is a bit run down. All the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. One tip if you are vacation at this resort is to bring your own cup for the beach. They only provide very very small cups. In our picture you can see we used a water bottle cut in half because we did not bring any other cups.

We stayed in a bungalow right by the Grill restaurant and the beach. Bungalow had a living room, with a little pull out couch and a few more chairs, bedroom with three beds, shower/tub very decent sink and toilet. Service staff were all super helpful and great at the hotel, and the food was real good despite reviews we'd read. The grill had great seafood and other options and the pool snack bar was great too!
Beach snack bar and bar are also great service! Beach is on a nice stretch of beach in varadero. 24 hour bar in the lobby and a sports bar with pool tables and tvs!
We had a real great experience at the hotel as well as on excursions we set up with air Canada vacations who we flew with to and from Cuba. I would go back!
