Loved our stay here! Air conditioning in the rooms were great! Thought I would hate walking to the beach, but I certainly enjoyed it - time is much slower!!

Worst vacation ever. Rude staffs, rude guests and lousy food. My wife got sick for 2 days due to food poisoning. Security guards are present but let other guests do whatever they please. My wife showed up earlier for the shows to get good seats but other guests stood in front of us anyway and pretended not to speak English when told what courtesy means, then responded to you rudely in Spanish not realizing I fully understand Spanish. Unless you speak Spanish you are not a priority. Guests grabbing and tossing your towels from chairs onto other chairs just because they feel like it. Spanish speaking guest jumping the lines at the bar and getting served regardless. I don't think it's up to guest to tell other guests what courtesy is. We are done with Varadero, especially with this resort.

The resort location is wonderful. People that work at the restaurants and housekeeping are super nice except at the front desk. Every time we need to ask for information they were not friendly at all. Food is not good and there is no much variety. Really difficult to find food for babies/kids.

Today, while during the checkout, I was approached by one of the hotel managers. She asked me about my experience with the front desk and I explain her what happened. I was really surprised and seems they keep checking Google reviews. She explain me there are students working there. They also were super nice giving us a courtesy room while we waited for the transfer to the Airport. I will give them the credit for being concerned about the quality of the front desk services and to care about us.

It was my first time in Cuba, so I didn't have any idea about hotels but as my friends told me about the food I didn't expect that much but the food in this resort was very good. both variety and quality. I talked to other people from other resorts ( in Havana daily tour) and they were not happy with the food in their hotels. so I think this resort can get 5star for the food.
We had lots of options for breakfast. A la Cart restaurants were great specially the Latin American.
The room was big and clean. We had a drain problem in the shower which was fixed quickly.
people and servers/servants were nice and friendly specially in the bars. entertainment was cool.
Here are some things that I wish I could see:
However I told them this is our honey moon, there wasn't any special welcoming in the room for us.
Anyway the overall experience was good and if I want to travel to Cuba one more time I will go there again.

This is NOT a 4 star hotel. The food was the worst I have tasted in my life, despite this being Cuba and going there with expectations as such. I had food poisoning twice with the seafood. The selection is the SAME for each meal with no selection for salads. The beef is anything but beef and is completely overcooked. The only thing you are safe with is bread. Our room had to be changed because we lost electricity. The room was not cleaned properly and there were sheets missing twice after it was cleaned.
It is very unfortunate because the resort is in a gorgeous part of Varadero and could potentially be one of the best hotels. It is impossible to enjoy any of the beauty and availabilities of the resort when the food is inedible and your room dirty.
If you are hoping to go dancing or enjoy the night life during your vacation, this is definitely not the place to do it. The night club was closed the whole week we were there.

I have never written a review, but I feel I am doing a disseverance to others who are considering going here if I do not post my experience.

Just visited on January 8th, 2018. The resort is a 4 Star for sure. They have wifi internet but good luck connecting or getting the speed you need to do just simple browsing. $1 card for internet and majority of the time you loose one hour time. Food is good but not best. Mind you it’s Cuba. Every time you go to downtown, you have to get the bus wait time to get there 40 mins. I took the taxi $25 one way 10 mins driving.

Why I chose this resort?

I have two kids and they have free 9am to 5pm daycare. I was very happy and I put my kids there for hour or two while me and my wife enjoyed our time together. Stuff was really nice and professional. The resort is not by the beach. Pool area is very nice. If you are traveling with kids, go in this resort. Our kids had there life time fun. Night shows are something you don’t wana miss. Very nice shows every night. If you want to go in a resort where you can relax, have good drinks, food, clean rooms, and so on go to this resort.

DO NOT CHANGE YOUR MONEY IN THIS RESORT: you will loose a lot of money. On the 17th street Downtown there is a government bank which will give you $100 to $77 Cuban money. In resort you will have $100 to $72 Cuban money. If you change big amount of money which I changed it’s a lot.

My suggestion: get a resort in Downtown Varadero. Why is that? Because of location location. Yes I know Downtown resorts are bad but you are right in the centre of all happiness and shopping stores.

WANA PARTY AT NIGHT? 😬

Just get a taxi and tell him to drive you where the part is! He will take you to most party dance floor ever where you meet people from all over the world.

At the end:

Make the right choice for your trip and know your needs. You really have two choice in Varadero

1- End of the strip Varadero. Good resorts but far from attractions

2- Downtown resorts Varadero. 2 Star 3 stars resorts but right in the heart of attractions.

My suggestion: go into Downtown resorts

lovely hotel, big rooms and balcony, well laid out with beautiful views.
Clean and tidy and well appointed.
Staff were very helpful and couteous.
Only spoiled by a few loud Americans.

Very nice interior design in the lobby area which creates a intimate/calm setting. There's a scenic overview of the marina on the balcony dining area and balcony for drinking / sitting. This is a nice small resort. Although the pool area is within one section and small it works for the amount of people on the resort. Most of the staff are very friendly. As for the A LA carte I would say the oriental restaurant is the best. The buffet is OK could be improved with better systems for the grilling stations to maximize efficiency of service during peak times. The 24 hour snack bar staff that work the day shift are friendly however the food service is very slow and sometimes the food is not cooked warm for the length of time you're waiting.

I would recommend this venue to couples or small groups although there are some festivities it is a more calm and quiet resort.

Very nice hotel with nice pool, great cocktail; the hotel is near the marina of Varedero but also has access to the beach. The hotel has entertainement every day: concert, circus, pool/ beach activities. The choice of food can be improved, considering it is a 5 star hotrl

After reading reviews for a month before we went I was more than happy with the experience. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was no too bad you could always find something to eat. Sunwing rep was helpful and always there to help. Excursions were fabulous. Hotel was clean, rooms spacious. I would recommend the Melia Marina to anyone. Beach is beautiful and I did not think it was small but again it was our first time there. Was nice to talk to Cubans to get their prospective on the changes happening in their country. I think there will be changes but for the betterment of the Cubans not the Americans. They are a proud and culture rich peoples and country. Recommend you go past the beach and see the country as it is beautiful. It is not dirty in Cuba. The garbage on some of the back roads it there because there is no where else to put it. It looked to me that they controlled it somehow as there was not much there. I always saw them repairing and painting and cleaning and gardening. They work 6 days a week - most have more than one job. I am looking forward to returning next year and will be staying at the Melia Marina.

First of all let me say, this is the touristic area of Cuba (about 2.5 hrs from Havana driving). If you're into getting to know the more rustic, less touristy area of Cuba, this is NOT your place. We chose this area for the commodity and tranquility to spend time as a family. My husband and I stayed in July 2017 with our two kids ages 5 and 3. We ended up booking the Level room and I must say we weren't disappointed at all. Rooms were cleaned daily, Unlimited room service and a la carte restaurant every night as well as optional The Level Restaurant and unlimited internet cards. Breakfast at the buffet were fine, nothing very impressive. We went to the beach and didn't have to wait too long for the golf buggy. Lots of activities at the beach and had lunch at the snack shop by the beach, food was amazing there by the way. We also lounged by the pool with the kids who thoroughly enjoyed it. We hung out at the lobby quite a few times and were able to catch the nightly shows, the lobby bar was excellent and my kids thought the frozen chocolate milk was exceptional, they still talk about it to this day. All in all I would say it was an awesome first trip to Cuba.

Just got back from a 7 day vacation to Melia Marina and I have to say, it was amazing! The staff were so helpful and friendly. Clean rooms and beautiful bathrooms with a walk in shower and a soaker tub. Food was alright, sometimes bland, although their pizza, desserts, ice cream and pancakes were great. Best mango I have ever eaten. Although a couples minutes walk to the beach, they have a guy who goes back and forth in a big golf cart to take you there and back. Pool was great, lots of seating and shade. Only issue we had, was someone stole one of our towels, and instead of giving us another one, we had to pay 15 pesos for it, even though it wasn't our fault.
Other than that, we had a great time. Highly recommend this place!

My husband and I and our 1 year old were here in March 5-12. We had an amazing time! Beautiful resort, super friendly staff especially Dionel at the towel exchange by the pool.
The food was good, more than enough variety. We will definitely return to this resort!

We' just got back from Cuba. We stayed at Melia Apartments and we chose the "No Meal" option because we wanted to explore restaurants in the area while we travel around Varadero. My first advice for Melia Apartments: check your room and do an inventory of all the items that are "supposed" to be there, report any missing items. We didn't think to do this and when we checked out, the reception told us the iron was missing. It threw us for a loop because we don't even use an iron---honestly, who thinks of ironing clothes when going to the beach?! They claimed it was there but we didn't check the closet so we didn't know for sure. Anyway, it became a classic "he said/she said" situation which I don't wish on anybody. Other than this, we found the food ok, a bit mediocre at times. The Snack Bar was advertised as 24/7 but really, it's notopens at 8am and you can't get certain items on the menu past 8pm. The beach is great but just note that you have to walk to get there. The resort is not right on the beach. The Marina Market is a nice area to walk around with shops along the marina. However, personally, we would not come back to this resort after the bad service experience we had. Plenty of other resorts in the area that we've already started exploring.

Fantastic resort. The rooms were clean and modern, nothing broken or missing. The pool is very large and split into two sides, one with a beach walk in and the other with a swim up bar. Lots of lounge chairs and a decent amount of shade around, there were always chairs available. Swim up and pool bar staff were friendly and efficient. The food and the pool restaurant was good, burgers were perfect for lunch. The beach is a 5 minute walk over a bridge or a ride on a golf cart.The beach is narrow but lots of chairs with a concierge to get you a chair. There is a restaurant, bar and a small grill there. I didn't make it to the grill but did eat at the restaurant a couple of times, the quarter chicken is excellent. It also gets very busy during lunch. We did the upgrade to the "LEVEL ", well worth it, I wouldn't go back unless I upgraded. That being said we only went to the buffet once and it was pretty good for Cuba standards. The level restaurant was great for breakfast, lunch and dinner, staff were very good. Also went to the French, Italian and Asian ala carte, the French was by our favorite, staff is very well trained in French service. There is a nice promenade on the marina side that has lots of shops and restaurants. Great area to walk. All being said this has become our go to Cuba resort.

Facilities: Hotel is nice and well kept. The pool is good as well. The kid club is a nice little building next by the pool, but there seem to be no one in there. Beach is nice, though it gets a bit crowded in the afternoon. Service was good, though when asked, they were not able to provide us a 4th pillow even if the reservation was for four.
Location: Nice access to the marina which have stores and a short walk to the excursions. Going back in town, or doing transfers by bus takes forever as you got to stop to all the hotels on the way down.
Food: Looks like tender meat does not exists in Cuba!! It all feel like stew grade meat. Bring you own steak knife if you're a meat eater as they don't have them. Processed meat is ok if you're a fan. Limited selection of good vegetables and fruits. No complaints about the drinks and coffee.
Overall, it's a good place and I would go again, but I would look for a different place if we were to have the kids with us.

Nice place with good staff. The food on the other hand is pretty terrible. Also, I tried to cancel one of my two rooms the day of arrival and I was told that I couldn't because the cancellation deadline had passed. This was fine but then I got an email the following week that said that they tried to refund me the money for one room but then had to cancel the refund because I used a second room I wouldn't have used the second room had they told me I could cancel! Either way, decent place but if you are looking for an amazing resort experience, try one of the other, more developed islands.
