  Zancudo lodge is a somewhat undiscovered sportfishing gem. While it is certainly far from unknown - it should be mentioned in the same breath as top of class destinations like Tropic Star Lodge, or Casa Vieja in Guatamala. This lodge a world class destination that boasts some of the best fishing anywhere in the world. We were a little early in the season for our trip, but managed to catch 18 roosterfish, more jacks than you can count, an african pompano, a half dozen yellowfin tuna and other bi-catch in only a few short days.
  
  Greg and Goldine are amazing hosts, and help new guests every step of the way. They are knowledgeable about both the amazing inshore and offshore fishing, as well as their guests' needs. Considering you're venturing into the untapped jungle, it's a fairly easy trip. A flight from san jose to Golfito, and a short boat ride to the lodge that's inclusive with the trip.
  
  Zancudo has a fleet of very capable pangas, as well as a few larger contenders if you really want to get there in a hurry. Considering the fish attracting devices (FAD's) are up to 50 miles offshore, it makes since that you want both speed and reliability in your vessels.
  
  The local captains are very well versed in catching live bait, and finding the fish. Despite being their for a tournament (pelagicgear triple crown), they were helpful to one another in using the radio to find fish for their anglers. Unlike many charter operations, the fishing tackle and gear they use is top notch. They have the appropriate top dollar heavy tackle. This means new penn internationals for trolling, and quality light tackle setups for the inshore roosterfish.
  
  There's not many place in the world where you can EXPECT multiple shots at billfish in a day, and this is one of them. Even if you only get a few shots, you'll still have a blast catching roosterfish, visiting the jungle, and staying at a top notch lodge with ice cold air conditioning, blazing fast wifi, and fresh local seafood served to you daily. Considering the cost of an operation like this, the pricing is very reasonable. They do book their season quickly so be sure to plan in advance.

  Zancudo lodge is a first class sport fishing destination in Costa Rica. From the time you arrive, to the time you leave, the experience is seamless. The owners of the lodge, Greg & Goldine, truly "go the extra mile" to ensure their guest's expectations are exceeded.
  
  The property is stunning, featuring an oversized tropical oasis of a lounge just a few dozen yards from a breathtaking expansive beach. The rooms are lavish with enormous bathrooms, unusually comfortable beds, and are just a few steps from a gorgeous secluded swimming pool. All meals are included with the stay, and are prepared by a talented culinary team who genuinely take pride in their work. Fresh local fruits, seafood, and impressively prepared meals made for a memorable dining experience. .
  
  What really sets this fishing lodge apart from other destinations in the region is the unwaveringly capable sportfishing fleet. With two brand new 32 Contender's and a fleet of Panga's manned by an experienced native team of Captain's - you can expect to catch rooster fish, sailfish, marlin, dorado, and yellowfin tuna. Having fished all over the world, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the tackle, the attitude/skill of the captain's (shout out to Abilio, Popin, and Jonathan) and their determination to put us on the fish. It's no small feat to keep a fleet of 10 boats in service and stocked with reliable tackle, but I can attest that Zancudo accomplishes this flawlessly.
  
  Zancudo lodge is genuinely the finest fishing destination i've been to in Central America. You simply can't beat the service, customer first attitude, and proximity to epic sport fishing. I will definitely be back!
