Had a wonderful time. Spent two weeks here and loved the laid back unplugged nature of the experience.

2 1/2 ⭐️as of now, I'm staying generous right now. It would be 5 ⭐️ except problems so, were they flukes or did I get what I paid for? Time may tell; after I find the owner and talk about what's happened, and see if we can come together to find a solution with a happy ending. The most positive outcome would be that my stuff is returned to the cabin, no questions asked. But time is running out (only the person who took the stuff knows why at this point ) and furthermore - now I can't trust my things are safe even with my cabina door locked. Unfortunately.
To be fair, everyone has to watch out for their stuff all over Costa Rica, especially gringos. But my 8 or 10 experiences in this neck of the woods have shown me that everyone is caring and honest; nobody would steal from me but only because I've started to get an identity here in the area as someone who is giving back to the community. I checked in at night, next morning I locked up & went down to the beach for an hour. I don't like being pegged as someone to rob from, but that's exactly what happened. When I came back into my room, I knew someone had been in there. I'm going to leave the contents of what was stolen out of this for the time being, and will update this review if or when I talk to the owner. I've been told by expat locals the owner is a gringo; I wouldn't have known otherwise. If you want to stay here and be able to communicate well with the staff, you need to speak Spanish.
As other reviewers on travel websites & apps have mentioned, you cannot get Wi-Fi in the cabinas facing the sea. Slow/spotty wifi throughout, but there's only so much of that you can pin on one place. Wi-Fi is slow/spotty everywhere in Costa Rica, it's just the way it is. But owners can choose to pay for a higher grade of service then I think these guys do here. FYI. Some people don't mind not having wifi in your room; considering we are in paradise – who needs to be online all the time?
Some of us do, though. :-/ I still chose the Seaview cabin so can't complain about where I'm sitting right now in order to post. But I won't choose that cabina again, if I even decide to stay here in the future.
This place is also much farther down south on the coast then it registers on various travel app Maps including Google. It matters more if you don't have a car because it's not close to enough other things to be convenient (although they did offer the house bicycle to me when I asked). I like to swim, and being a km or 2 farther north is much better for swimming because of the strong tides down here. I am a good strong experienced swimmer and I can attest to that; I got carried out quickly in a high tide yesterday and had to swim harder & longer than I have in years in order to get back to shore. You definitely need to know what you're doing with the tides and the waves on this part of the beach.
Now for the good stuff- The food in the restaurant is great very fresh, and I really like the people cooking & running the everyday biz around here. I'm just not sure which one of the Tikos around here views me as a schmuck.
