Stopped in the middle of afternoon, office had open sign on the door however doors were locked, knocked several times to no avail so left. Couldn't tell if place is still operating.

Very good food at reasonable prices. Very good open air atmosphere right on the beach. We did not stay at the resort, but ate at the restaurant a few times during our week visit.

Tambor Tropical is the perfect Gateway to surfing at Santa Teresa. I recommend staying in Tambor, particularly Tambor Tropical because of the wide variety of activities. We woke up to an incredible sunrise on the beach, were greeted by the exotic Macaws, friendly staff, and tasty breakfast. Jumped in the van for a day of surfing and action at Santa Theresa. Got back to Tambor Tropical by 5:00p with a pleasant surprise from the staff. Spent the rest of the evening enjoying the sunset ambiance, cocktails, and good local company. The hotel room was clean, staff was friendly, and management was very accommodating. A+ review I strongly recommend!

Was given a kayak paddle when I rented a paddle board there.
There is a lack of Costa Rican culture. The server was white and from North America. The service was terrible and we were the only party at dinner. The food was not up to the quality I was used to while in CR. The food took forever to receive.
The wines were North American. I am from the States and it bothers me that the owner Mark (from Oregon) has so little understanding or care about retaining Costa Rican culture.
The hotel prices are insanely high and are better suited for the US.
My BF and I make great money and we enjoy our holidays but we were a bit annoyed by the utter lack of energy to retain the costa rican culture by hiring locals only and offering drinks and food native to CR or to the Latin culture.
The menu included Kendall Jackson Chardonnay to give you an idea of what I am talking about. I was looking forward to trying the Pinot Noir from Oregon but it was not up to par with the Oregon Pinot Noir I have experienced. It tasted a bit musty if that makes sense. The Chilean and Argentinean wines on the trip were much better.

Juan Carlos and Victor were very accomodating and helpful like all Costa Ricans we met on our journey.

If you really want to experience Costa Rica there are many other great spots that offer a taste of the real culture. If you want to go to Costa Rica to experience the States go here.

We travel via Instagram, then we google the heck out of a place. If that and the trip advisor reviews are good, we go there. This is just such a place.

Beautiful rooms, wonderful calm bay for paddle boarding and kayaking, fresh fish from the pier. The rooms have a full kitchen, there's a bar onsite in case you don't want to get out of the pool that's open 24 hours a day.

The food is great, beers are inexperience for a boutique hotel such as this one. You'd never guess in a million years that this place is 20 years old.

Lots of helpful staff always around in case you need something, they can book tours or rental cars, but best of all, no kids allowed. It can be quiet, or you can head over to the local bar to check out the pulse of the town. It's not a white sand beach, but you can head to tortuga island for some fun in the sun if you want.

I highly recommend it!
