Went on the extreme volcano Arenal hike. Excellent tour with beautiful scenery. Arenal volcano was fully visible and it was a beautiful sunny day. Everything was extremely well organized and Isaac, our guide, was very friendly, talkative, informative and funny. Loved this all day adventure ending with the hot springs and then all of our group went out to dinner that evening. Thank you Red Lava Tours for a great experience!!!
Took the 5-6hr trip including arenal hike, waterfall and hot river. Great way to end a vacation. Our good Emmanuel was amazing: very knowledgeable and great to hang out with in the river.
We did the two volcanoes extreme hike. First of all, bring good shoes and a raincoat! You could do the hike in running shoes but I would highly recommend against it. The trail will be muddy (forget about keeping your shoes clean it isnt going to happen, just step on the mud.) we cross a bunch of rivers so you'll get wet too and if it's raining prepare to get soaked. There is some scrambling up and down slopes so be prepared for an adventure! The hike is worth it though we saw a bunch of amazing wildlife, beautiful views, had lunch by a river and saw views of the volcanoes we other wise wouldn't have. The hot spring River at the end of the night washed away all the dirt and soreness at the end and all was good again. Would recommend for the adventurous and those in relatively decent shape.
This place wowed me. We went here only to ask about transportation to the national park, and the employee there offered us an amazing deal of $25 for a hike, waterfall, and hot springs with a mud facial and cocktail. It would've cost $25 for a taxi just to get to the park! Such an incredible deal. We see the volcano, monkeys, birds, frogs, butterflies, and beautiful nature. Our guide, Mauricio, was great. I'll never forget this tour!
Took the 9 hour tour and it was very nice and beautiful. Not very hard if you're looking for a challenging hike/trek. Marcos is an incredible guide! The hot water river at the end is awesome. PS: No you don't climb the volcan, you just pass by and get a good look of it.
The office is in the bus station. I met the owner. The big dutchman, he was the best and gave details about the tours with videos. I chose the rio celeste tour and had 8 others along with reynaldo the fantastic guide. We hiked for an hour with grey skies and saw a toucan and some big spiders. Then we reached the amazing waterfall. There were about 100 people coming and going on wide muddy trails. The water is torquiose color. Amazing. We hiked to a lagoon. Then the place where the chemicals mix and you can see the river turning blue. Then big rain and on back for a quality linch and coffee. Reynaldo is a native indian who spoke good english and amused me with some native talk.recommeded tour
Great staff and service when booking, very flexible. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful, the kids loved him. Also did an ad hoc waterfall swim with us which was ace!
The guides make half of the experience, i can say nothing but good things. Everyone of our guides was incredible and respectful. Though i do regret not doing blue falls 🙄
These guys rock! Took two tours and lined up transport through them to Monteverde. Very profesional and bilingual. Blue Falls is an incredible tour, a Rio Celeste that you can actually swim and jump in. Observatory hike with hot springs is magical and not very strenuous.
Had the adventure of a lifetime yesterday hiking the Cerro Chato volcano. Eric was our guide and made this adventure a blast. We hiked the volcano, swam in the lagoon, crossed two hanging bridges, swam at the base of a waterfall and then relaxed in a natural hot spring. Thanks for the great memories Red Lava!
Use Red Lava for all your excursions!! Don't bother going anywhere else!
Soon as we got off the bus in La Fortuna we went straight to Red Lava and booked 2 days of excursions. They took care of us in 30 mins with great service. The one day we actually screwed up the times and we were late for our excursion. They took their own personal car and caught up to the bus just so we can still make it. I wish I could remember the name of our Red Lava Expert. He was tall and from the Netherlands, I would recommend dealing with him but I am sure the rest of the team is great as well.
Awesome team. They helped out my friend when their leg cramped up and took the time to help even though they wern't on Red Lava's tour. A challenging hike that was well worth it and made better by such a supportive staff!
