Beautiful flora, fauna, birds and butterflies all around. The rooms are impeccably kept and adorned with art and an attention to detail, like leaf wrapped handmade, fresh scented soaps. Rob and Monica are wonderful hosts!

This is my third time staying at the Lucky Bug and my 5th time there (twice before they had the rooms). I always enjoy it there. Feels like paradise. Monika and Rob are great hosts and very pleasant and helpful. Look forward to coming back! Would highly recommend. Rooms are spacious and gorgeous. Food was outstanding!

Wow - just wow. When the wonderful owners, Rob and Monika, showed us our room we couldn't believe it. You know how rooms NEVER look as nice in person as they do in the online photos? Well this one actually looked BETTER! Lovely, lovely works of art are everywhere you set your eye. You can see the careful attention in every detail. I am sensitive to smells and was very pleased that the room had no detectable odors, the linens smelled fresh, not perfumy. They were also soft on the skin, not scratchy as you will often find in Costa Rica. The (handmade!) soaps in the bathroom were artfully wrapped in banana leaves and had a silky feel and pleasant light scent. Nice glass shower in the beautifully decorated bathroom. Gorgeous views from our balcony (Butterfly room) of their own private lake, butterfly house (!) and stunning grounds. Monika is a talented artist. She has placed special touches EVERYWHERE. And the handcrafted garden lighting must be experienced to be appreciated. We fell in love. If they'd let is we'd happily live there the rest of our lives. Every aspect of the room, the grounds, flowers, birds, wildlife, Monika's yummy breakfasts (!) and warm hospitality were beyond our wildest expectations. An upscale experience with a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere.
We arrived at Lucky Bug late. Rob was super helpful in orienting us for a night drive into nearby Nuevo Arenal where food options abound. On our second night we enjoyed a spectacular dinner at a little soda on the main street called Iris's. Iris is a super sweet lady who we had a lot of fun talking with in our broken Spanish. She made us some fried tilapia to die for with traditional Tico sides of beans, rice and salad. She even broke out her secret recipe, blow-your-head-off personal stash of homemade picante and wheeeee! So delicious! She had fun laughing at us wimpy gringos. Lol. We felt very comfortable leaving our car parked and walking around town, even at night. Everybody is super happy and nice and likes to laugh and will help you out however they can. We just loved it there!
Now, be aware that the rooms at Lucky Bug are not air conditioned. If they were I'm sure they'd be A LOT more expensive. There is a ceiling fan. We stayed at the end of November and it got a bit warm the first night but then it cooled off nicely after that where we definitely didn't need it. Just something to note if you're sensitive to that.
All in all, cannot say enough about the place and our new friends in beautiful Nuevo Arenal. Thank you for the wonderful experience and great memories to last a lifetime. Pura vida!response / report this review -

Wow !!! Talk about a perfect location !! Out of a movie set, quiet location close to town with the perfect couple as hosts. This is a location you don't want to miss, book right away since it fills out fast.

Hands down the best place in Costa Rica we stayed at. From the email conversation up front, to the warm welcome, the spacious and beautifully decorated rooms, to the great landscaping and bird-watching we enjoyed over a fantastic, organic and world-class breakfast. Monika and Rob went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. They gave us great recommendations of where to eat dinner and what to do. You could tell they take pride in their work and genuinely enjoy interactions with guests. We will miss the Toucan, Iguana, super fresh hand-picked bananas and pineapples until we have the pleasure of staying at the Lucky Bug B&B again! Thanks so much for everything.

Beautiful place! You will feel like never leaving. Surrounded by the jungle, birds, a lake, and beautiful people. Breakfast is picked every morning from the piña, papaya and guava trees :-) I loved staying at the lucky bug!!!

Best B&B in the area, best food and one of best gallery/shops in the country. I make sure that's visit it every year, not only for the delicious food and the great shop, but to see the native birds come to the feeders. If you can find the time to drive the north shore of Lake Arenal, this is a must STOP.

What a magical place! The grounds are beautifully maintained around a small lake and teeming with birds. The breakfast is tastefully presented and delicious. Our hostess, Monica, made us feel so welcome and provided good information about local resources.

Beautiful setting by Lake Arenal, comfortable rooms very tastefully decorated and pleasant. The gift shop has a wonderful array of gifts and art. The breakfasts are presented so well and very delicious and to top this off our host Monika was so welcoming and helpful.

Top quality B&B, this place is for bird watchers, families and peaceful people looking to unwind. There is a lake and little trails to wonder around.
Best gift shop in the area on site. Family owned, professionally run!
