Amazing views of Sámara and Northern beaches, along with friendly people managing the place. Reasonable prices, no TV screens in the rooms, and a nice pool.

A mile or so from the center of Samara, Lodge Las Ranas is a lovely, quiet, secluded place with gorgeous views of the water. The staff is incomparable: Brian and Kika are warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, and will go to great lengths to make arrangements for you with any of the many tours and services available in the area. An error by our travel agent was repaired when Kika got us on a whale watch tour (with Octopus Tours, a wonderful outfit) at the last moment. Shelly, the owner, keeps a calm watch on everything and is also a wealth of knowledge.
The facilities and rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast, the only meal, is delicious, with several options always including wonderful local fruits and very good coffee worthy of insufferable coffee snobs (like me).
The wildlife right on the premises is astonishing: in a few days, we saw a family of Tucans, a family of Howler Monkeys, a few Iguanas, some geckos, a Coati, and countless other species of birds. These were not fleeting glimpses: the Tucans bathed enthusiastically in the spray of a hose, and the monkeys lingered for about an hour, eating, playing, and making their impressive call.
We have loved our stay here and would certainly come back.

Amazing wildlife right outside your balcony! Howler monkeys, dozens of bird species, Iguanas, Coatis, armadillos, squirrels and probably many more. Just amazing! Very friendly staff, Shelly, Kika and Brian are great. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable. AC worked great. The pool is nice and the atmosphere is so relaxing. Ten out of ten, would definitely come back and highly recommend to others.

We stayed here for five nights in December 2017 and had here the best time of our holiday, even though the weather was bad. The place is like paradise on earth. We ad more animals around us than in the reservates we visited (like monkeys, coaties, iguanas). The staff was the friendliest we met during our whole time in Costa Rica, I guess this speaks for itself. Rooms and pool were always super tidy. Thank you guys, pura vida.

    Great little hotel.
Rooms are modern and spacious. Staff are friendly and very helpful.
The pool area is lovely and quiet.
It's a little up the hill, but fine if you have a car (although 4wd recommended for the drive) and can walk to the beach in under 20 minutes.
Very much enjoyed our time here.

A fabulous location, on top of a small hill (up a very steep drive) just outside Samara. Loads of wildlife in the grounds. B&B only and it's a 15 min walk to the beach or the centre of town but the views more than compensate for that. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. They are very happy to help you order food in for lunch or dinner.

This lodge is not very easy to find. Without a car you can take a taxi in and out of town for just a few dollars. It's situated on a hill with a very steep road going up where only one car can drive. So hope and pray you won't find another car going the opposite direction.

WiFi is slow and not yet available in the rooms. But the owner is working on it. So it will be there in near future.

The rooms are clean and nice. The staff is very nice as well. If you want a quiet spot, this is the right place for you.

Lovely villa-style hotel with beautiful surrounds. Its not walking distance from Samara so you need a car to get around. Staff and owner are very friendly and helpful (offered us a cold drink on arrival). Rooms are comfortable with air-conditioning and great views (occasionally you'll see monkeys in the trees). Had a great stay here and would visit again.
