Love our stay at La Mariposa. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The view is second to none, overlooking Manuel Antonio to the southeast and the sunset. Partial Oceanview room has a nice view of M. A. Used the free shuttle to the beach and to visit M. A. park without a problem. Would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.
We were there just for a dinner actually for the sunset. We were recommended to watch the sunset from their restaurant and indeed it was beautiful Food was OK! Servers were helpful.
We stayed here for 4 nights this past Feb and the views or the ocean are incredible! I’m planning on returning this December and we can’t wait!
I booked the hotel looking at the great reviews. I also always carefully reviewed room pictures and information as I always do. I am no novice as you can tell from my many reviews all over the world. Anyway, I did my homework and paid for the most expensive Superior Ocean View room which was a full $125 more than the Standard Obstructed Ocean View room.
Upon reaching the hotel after driving 5 hours, I was told by management that I did not declare my son on the reservation and would have to pay for him. I realized my mistake, and immediatly agreed without a single argument. I was then taken to my room which was the cheapest room in the hotel with looked like a room from Motel 6, with even less amenities than a motel room. I was extremely disappointed and asked management about this in the morning. The manager made a very lame remark about everyone expecting things to look like in pictures but it's not life. I calmly told him that the room size, view, pictures, and amenities resembled the standard room EXACTLY. So, I am not a fool. Then he proceeded to give me a different room, which was also a standard room. Please let me know if you need me to send you pictures.
Now I know the hotel has new and nice Superior Ocean View rooms in the new part of the main building. I could see them, and I have also read reviews from people here who stayed there. I am glad for them. Alas, I was not so lucky. I feel like I have been robbed of $300+ dollars extra for a cheap room. Thank you La Mariposa management. I WILL NEVER GIVE YOU MY BUSINESS AGAIN.
As an alternative, please choose San Bada hotel. It is at the gate of the national park, has better rooms, and has access to a private beach
Beautiful views from the bedrooms, you can see the national park and the beach. At sunrise the panorama is breathtaking. The beds are comfortable and the rooms have plenty of space.
They have a couple of pools that also face the sea, one if them is a wet bar. The bartenders are super nice people.
The restaurant is pricey, maybe not on par with the quality of the food, but it's still good food.
We had drinks at the bar. Bartender is friendly and helpful, drinks were fantastic, and the view is second to none. Highly recommend.
We were there just for a dinner actually for the sunset. We were recommended to watch the sunset from their restaurant and indeed it was beatiful. Food was OK! Servers were helpful.
The view is great and rooms are OK.
We have been very disappointed about the reception. Prior to our departure we agreed with the reception (by email) that we could us a convenience room to take a shower after our check in as we went for an activity during the day. The evening when we came back, we were offered to use the shower of the swimming pool. Water was very cold and we were then unable to take a shower. When asking the reception the did not want to let us have a convenience room. We had to argue with the hotel manager in order to take a hot shower! We have never seen that in our previous travel!
Great hotel with the most amazing views! When we arrived the staff was very friendly and upgraded our room to a villa for free! The free Wi-Fi is great, the free breakfast is good but there is only a few options to choose from! The food is fantastic but very expensive! We went to quepos and got local food that was half the price! The pools are very cold and there is no hot tub. Overall, I would recommend this hotel cause your not going to get a better view!
1) wifi issues if you stay rooms outside main building.
2) rooms are plain, simple, they selling you the view to the ocean.
3) no Jacuzzi, cold pools only.
4) if you first experience arenal volcano area. (green, beautiful resorts, warm hot spring waters) and then you come to manuel antonio you will see a huge difference.
i prefer warm water so i had a 180 change of experience
Went to stay 3 days to enjoy some beach time knowing there are several good beaches nearby, only to have a storm intensify into what would become Hurricane Nate coming up from Panama and make the weather quickly deteriorate into strong tropical storm conditions for over 48 hours. This left the southern pacific coast of Costa Rica cut off from the capital San Jose near where we have an apartment for several more days. We ended up having to stay a total of 5 nights during which we enjoyed one day of sunny beach weather. Were it not for the professionalism and top notch service provided by the staff at La Mariposa our stay would not have been as pleasant an experience as it turned out to be. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and modern, and the food quality very good. We would definitely stay here again when returning to Manuel Antonio. 😊
Quaint boutique hotel in paradise. Our room on the corner of the top floor had beautiful 180 degree views of the gorgeous Manuel Antonio coastline. The infinity pool looking over the coast is fabulous. Perfect location for walking to some nice restaurants. Staff was great. We'll be back for sure.
Gorgeous views. Nice pool and adequate service. High price food and old buildings. Great guests. Lots of room for improvement.
Staff are friendly and views are spectacular. The mattresses are very uncomfortable but the room was great
Wonderful location and spectacular views. Service and people were great. Only wish they had better drinks by the pool.
Hard to leave the right review here as my husband and I spent four days at the bar/restaurant at this hotel and overall had good service and decent food. There is one awful bartender at this place. Must really hate his job - younger guy, Jadri maybe. The credit card machine was broken, which was not told to us until we were ready to cash out. We only had two beers and a pina colda, couldn't have been more than $15, after we'd already spent at least $250 for dinner and happy hours this week. The bartender asked if had cash to which we responded only $1. We had used the same credit card there the past 4 days so did not think we would need it. He got very frustrated with us and proceeded to say we had to do something and at least pay for the 2 beers. With what we asked? He told us to walk to the ATM. Not quite a solution when you have an American Express. It is not a debit card. Instead of just apologizing for THEIR issue and not telling us ahead of time that it was cash only before we ordered, he made us feel awful like we were trying to escape a tab. Instead of just saying we've appreciated your business the last few days and letting us go for something that was their issue. He was awful and miserable. When I asked for the manager he said it was him (of course). In fact this wasn't true because on the way out I asked another person who was the manager and they directed me to another gentleman, much kinder and nicer. I suggest La Miraposa give this bartender a customer service lesson or send him on his way. I would severely hesitate before recommending this bar to sometime. Cafe Milagro and Emilio's and Falafel Bar have amazing staff who are kind and friendly. Unlike this bartender at La miraposa.
