After landing in cartagena, we were looking for a late lunch. Someone recommended Montesacro. We sat in the patio, with a nice breeze as music was playing from the park near by. The food was nice, but not up to the standards of the price. Service was very slow and they did not pay attention to our requests. Fine dining prices, require fine dining details to be paid attention to.

Fantastic coctails! About the food I can say that nothing special. Beautiful view but as a restaurant is a little bit pricey.

Recommended by my Airbnb host Mark. Went there and had the best food in my life. Tasty and cozy atmosphere with live music. Love it!!

Favorite restaurant in Cartagena. Went here twice on my visit! It’s upstairs with outdoor seating that faces the the plaza with live music. All the food we tried was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Highly recommend!

Cozy upstairs restaurant. Ask for a table outside on the balcony. It overlooks a park/square. Food was average. I had a simple pasta primavera dish with vegetables. You can choose one of two pastas. We had live entertainment (singer). Not sure if they offer this nightly.
In case you're not familiar with the tipping culture in Colombia, most restaurants add an additional 10% service charge on your bill. This is split between the server staff. Our waiter pulled a fast one and said he doesn't get the 10%. I was caught off guard and left an additional tip in cash. People will sometimes leave extra if the service was outstanding. The service was average. His dishonesty was not appreciated.response / report this review -

Very very waiter service slow. Unbelievable.
Example: I wanted to request a lemonade: all waiters were standing in front of the kitchen for a long time. When they came back to the clients, they never looked to me. Once, one of then looked to me like: I don't want to serve you. Very strange.
The price is a bit higher than others in Cartagena, but the taste is very good and the place is very beautiful and clean.response / report this review -

Great restaurant. Food is wonderful try seafood risotto and pescado ceviche.

Incredible food, this would normally cost $30+ in the US. Slow service as with most of Cartagena, but attentive host helped smooth out the slow waiters. Great house cocktail of the same namesake. We had the fish fillet dishes which were amazing.

My partner and I were looking for somewhere nice to have a late dinner in the old city of Cartagena. After wandering around for awhile we stumbled upon Montesacro and decided to give it a shot. So glad we did.
The ambiance was excellent, and the service was impeccable. We wanted to sit out on their balcony, but when our first table was right next to a live musician the server let us wait a few minutes to grab another that was quieter. The live music was great and at a very reasonable volume.
The food was amazing. I had a ceviche appetizer (there's a whole page dedicated to them in the menu) which was a little spicy with beautiful shrimp and cornbread crackers, and my partner had a dish of little plantain cups with tomato and green onion with sour cream, avocado and queso on the side. Both were wonderfully presented and very delicious. I had a fish main course (peacado laqueado) which had a very nice charcoal-infused oil cream sauce on a bed of thinly sliced vegetables, and my partner had a beef stew and risotto main. The beef risotto was rich and tender, and although an uncommon pairing a delightful one. The fish was light but still very flavourful with a lovely texture, prepared in a pretty regular way but with that lovely cream sauce and the paper thin vegetables the whole dish really came alive. We were both so stuffed from our courses we didn't save room for dessert!
The service was excellent. We were well attended to, our food came very promptly (but not at all rushed) and our server was very attentive to our table for the entire duration. My partner is fluent in Spanish but the waiter did speak some English as well. Very impressed with the service here. Pricing for this restaurant is very reasonable. Although slightly more than you might see from some of the surrounding ground level restaurants, the quality of the food and service makes it absolutely worth it. And by North American standards, it's a steal.
Overall, if you're going to be dining in El Centro and want an intimate, charming dining experience, I would absolutely recommend going to Montesacro.response / report this review -

The menu was full of amazing seafood but I went for a pasta with chicken and can't describe how fabulous it was. It is very well located so it is very often packed. Totally recommended.
