good hotel and a cheap hostel ( cheap for Lugano's standards). it has wifi and the location is good ( 200mt from the station and the bus station)

I was a guest at the hostel for 2 nights.

The night guard came yelling at me, out of nowhere, and even threaten to call the police when I tried to ask him what was going on.

I will never stay at this hostel again.

Avoid this place if you are a backpacker.
This hostel should be great: a near brand new lower level for backpackers, great location and a lovely building. However this is the worst hostel I have ever encountered. The staff simply did not seem to care for our problems, they seemed irritated! The 'kitchen' is an exaggeration, it is a broom closet at best - dreadful. The decor in the hostel basement part is far too dark and feels very stuffy. And finally the approach of having curfews - rudely enforced - is laughable. AVOID.

Combination hostel/hotel. The hotel consists of three buildings situated in a palm grove: the main hostel building, the smaller hotel building, and a separate "grotto" where breakfast is served. The hotel rooms are excellent, comfy beds, flat screen TV and air conditioning. The location is great, right outside the station (where a funicular will take you down into town in a few minutes), and it's hard to beat breakfast outside under palm trees.

Oh, and they have a pool as well.
