Very well priced for the main art gallery in a major city although not as cheap as European galleries if that's what you're used to. I went round quite happily in about 45 minutes. Very interesting exhibitionists with a good number of Canadian artists on display.

Very nice layout that showcases 2 types of abstract art. The upper floor is dedicated to a particular artist who devoted her time to painting the forest. We had a great time here. There's also a gorgeous cafe and a gift shop

The Monet exhibition was tastefully put together: enough space to move around and facilities well organized. The restaurant is gorgeous! Vivaldi guitar concerto playing in the roof garden, birds tweeting, fragrant flowers and Sunday lunch with friends made a lovely afternoon! Spacious with plenty of seating - not like London, UK where you try to stand (inconspicuously as possible) like vultures around the tables at the V&A or Tate Britain!

My husband and I went with our 7 week old baby to the Money exhibit. The exhibit was incredible and beautifully curated, as was the Emily Carr exhibit. The staff were also friendly and helpful.
The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because there were no baby changing tables in any of the washrooms!response / report this review -

Saw the Monet exhibit just before it closed then a quick shuttle through the Emily Carr exhibit (permanent). The former was ecstatically good. Nicely curated and with good informational signage. The latter gave me a deeper appreciation of Carr's work. Very enjoyable though her oeuvre seems much more coldly philosophical than Monet's who seems to let heaven flow from his brush. How did he achieve that truth with such spare treatment? The gallery is surprisingly small (in my opinion).

Always love this place, it is an absolutely beautiful gallery. My only complaints would be that the ushers are completely rude at end of day just throwing out the gallery guests like they are transients, and I am sick of the Emily Carr exhibition taking up valuable space that could be used for something new. We get it. Her stuff is done well but they all look the same and we have all seen her work a million timesget something new please.

Absolutely loved the Monet exhibit. Did not care for the contemporary art on level 2 or 3 but that's not quite my taste. They did have a good amount of Emily Carr on level 4. Building itself was beautiful too.

The good: terrific exhibits. Friendly staff on hand to answer questions. Reasonably priced.
The not so good: can be a little confusing to navigate. Guests may need to double-back through previous areas to ensure all exhibits are seen.
The bottom line: excellent art gallery! Deserves to be experienced.response / report this review -

I attended the Monet exhibit as well as the cafe. The problem I had was that I have to walk with a cane, and can only deal with a limited number of stairs. In order to have access to the various parts of the gallery, I had to go to the security office via a winding route, wait in line to talk to them behind people using lost and found, and then they showed me a security elevator. I was told when the elevator stopped, I was to go to the obvious door, wait until they sent the signal for it to open, and then go through it, find the next door with a security button, wait for it to open, etc., through about 4 of these situations through the back corridors of storage stuff, just to get to one place.
The usual stairs people use are quite long and have no landing between floors as most long staircases do. They are made of old marble, meaning slippery.
This place is not easily handicapped accessible. Because of this difficulty, I only visited the cafe (which the security method had us enter through the kitchen) and the wonderful, first floor Monet exhibit. The security people were nice, but no elevators?response / report this review -

Excellent gallery for a small city. As a member I feel the turn over is pretty quick between exhibitions. Displays always well presented/curated. Nice gift shop with 10% off for members (cheap for students). Nice upscale cafe with great patio for a bite to eat or some drinks. Membership includes Fuse events (~22$). Can't wait for the new building set for construction.

The VAG is a great place to take guests or a great way to get lost in your own city. It never ceases to amaze me in the caliber of exhibits and the beauty of the building.

The exterior seems to always be under construction? Lots to see. I enjoy the gift shop and restaurant. Downtown is handy. I believe, entrance monthly, last Tuesday's is by ($10.00 recommend) donation!

Their feature installations are always fascinating and expand your mind, helping you to understand how art shapes your culture. It's a beautiful building and has very friendly and informed staff. Highly recommend for both visitors and locals!

I enjoy this gallery very much. It's a lovely building and the exhibits are always interesting. The gallery can't compare to those in New York or Paris, but the shows usually showcase at least some well known pieces from various collections. The cafeteria balcony is my favorite place to have a drink and dinner in the city when it's a beautiful day:)

A beautiful gallery with fantastic and unusual art. I love the layout of this gorgeous old building, it will be interesting to see what they create when they move to the new place. They offer a range of exhibits that appeal to both really conservative and really adventurous art patrons. I am so happy to have received a membership for my birthday last year. I think $132/year for a family is super reasonable especially as that is only 5 visits.
There is no way to see an entire exhibit in only 1-2 visits as there is soooo much to see. What an uplifting way to spend an evening, especially with a friend or family member. The membership and welcoming staff were friendly, warm and professional but the coat check (awesome that it was free!) were a bit irritated or 'rushy'. This was probably because it was a Tuesday night and they were under more pressure. I love that they have a by-donation night on Tuesdays for the public. There were always staff in every room so it was easy to find someone if you needed help with anything
All in all, a wonderful evening, beautiful building and exhibits and a great experience!response / report this review
