New quality standard on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease from Health Quality Ontario.
This quality standard provides guidance on the diagnosis, management, and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in community-based settings. It addresses care by all health care providers and was developed in consultation with clinicians and people living with COPD.
It also is based on the best evidence and is accompanied by a guide for patients to help them have informed discussions with their health care providers, as well as recommendations for system adoption.
The Spine Online e-course is now available for primary care providers.
Divided into two interactive modules that feature discussion boards and videos, this course provides evidence-based assessment and treatment options for patients with low back and/or neck pain. It also offers the choice between completing one module or both, which can be accessed at the bottom of the of the linked page.

Nurse Practitioners are highly skilled health care professionals with advanced education who can diagnose, treat, prescribe medications, order tests, offer referrals and admit or discharge patients.
Nurse Practitioners also often go beyond traditional medical care models to provide holistic health promotion and illness prevention through patient education.
So, are they effective? Very.
Decades of rigorous evidence shows that Nurse Practitioners improve access to personalized, cost-effective, high-quality health care that reduces wait times and costs throughout the broader health system. This patient-centred approach is well-suited to address multiple and on-going health conditions. Nurse Practitioners are especially critical for providing health services among Canada’s growing population of seniors, Indigenous peoples and those living in rural and remote locations.
Over the last 6 fiscal years, falls are the cause for 64% of persons hospitalized across Ontario after a TRAUMATIC brain injury. The same dataset shows that motor vehicle collisions (the next largest category) explains only 11% of admissions.
The Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation’s prevention team works with a group of partners to host an annual Fall Prevention Month campaign that takes place in November. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to host events, activities and initiatives to raise awareness about falls and how they can be prevented.
