The city hall has a adversarial relationship with its tax payers. Citizens are nothing more than a pain in the ass. They are adamant about the rules, change them and refuse to talk about the last set they gave. This city is broken and needs to change.

An actual comment about visiting city hall - not about the city. Went in to correct an error with my property tax.
Got prompt service and everything got resolved in a matter of minutes.

Trees are overgrown and the urban garden on the front lawn is an idiotic place to locate it.

Horrible road conditions. Poor repair jobs potholes everywhere. After living here 4 months I've gone through 2 tires and now my shocks need repair.

Some of the worst customer service I have seen in my life. Came home after a two month family trip to Vancouver Island and found my power had been disconnected. I am a senior and was nothing short of disgusted that something like this can happen in the middle of the winter. (Jan 18th) New Westminster Electric has nothing but excuses for the reason why they couldn't contact me for payment. Apparently they only send physical letter mail as a way of communication. The year is 2017. Not 1995. It is very easy to have a system in place where any late payments are automatically flagged and emailed to the property owner. Or it could have been as simple as a phone call to inform me that my account was in arrears. Shame on the City staff for being so ruthless and cold-hearted.. And all this because of a bill of 129$ A trivial sum to be so aggressive about. In ALL my years living on the coast, B.C hydro has NEVER disconnected my power. Now I must pay well over 100$ to reconnect my power (Oh!! and may I mention I was lucky! Had I been a few hours later to return home the fee would have been $350 for reconnecting my power because it would have been after 5pm.) New Westminster is behind the times and is clearly not a public service as much as it is simply a cash grab.

New West is a very nice city with historic attractions and buildings but FIX YOUR TRAFFIC SYSTEM!!!!!! It all started when my family and I were leaving Burnaby and entering E Columbia St. My grandpa was driving us and were on E Columbia St for 2km, and suddenly TRAFFIC JAM cause of McBride Blvd Construction. So I took Cumberland St and 6th Ave. Then more JAMS on McBride Blvd and 6th Ave. On our way to Richmond. It was fine. On our way home, We used Hwy 91A and the Queensborough Bridge and Another JAM all the way to the south end of the bridge. Then, we exited the bridge and took Stewardson Way and when we hit Columbia St at the north end of Downtown, We noticed the gate was closed for the Pattullo Bridge entry. Then a MASSIVE LINEUP FOR THE BRIDGE. I have no idea why TransLink you guys have to close it. It closes from 3pm to 6pm Mondays and Fridays. When I got at an earlier point of E columbia St. I saw a fast line of traffic on the Pattullo Bridge earlier. Then, a full traffic jam all thanks to McBride Blvd construction. I think there removing the crosswalk. They took our time and took the southbound traffic moving. Then We hit Front St. and people block our line and I have no idea why it was closed. I yelled to the traffic blockers "DON'T BLOCK THE INTERSECTION, F*** YOU!" I think they yelled at me for saying that. When we hit Brunette, another massive jam i have no idea why. And I found out why, it was stupid people driving recklessly on the Hwy 1 eastbound on ramp. A lot of cars were stuck and they tried to enter in the onramp. PLEASE FIX YOUR TRAFFIC SYSTEM CITY OF NEW WESTMINSTER AND JONATHAN COTE!!!!!!!!!!!

Great place to live, however the city needs to seriously consider tolling non-residents. Heavy congestion throughout the day. Residents are stuck footing the bill to maintain the roads when the majority of the traffic is from people passing through to save a buck by not paying the toll on the Port Mann.
